After doing some research, I think I'm going to wait for the BLUETTI PS72 700W Portable Power Station, 716Wh LiFePO4 Power Station that releases on 7/27/24. I'm seeing a pre-order for $219 on newegg or $300 on walmart. Seems like a better deal at 3 times the capacity for the price.

95% of the bulk of these units is the lithium cells, the inverter and ports take up relatively little space.

So no, not until battery technology allows for more dense energy storage (and the current trend is less dense for the sake of more duty cycles).

REALLY?!? Phones are on average 2500-5000 mAh. Guess what 5000 mAh is? 5Ah.

You leaf blower is likely 20V or 60V most likely instead of 3.7V. This is why we need to use Wh because people don't get basic concepts.

Very good deal. I bought one of these at $160 a few months back and it's been rock solid through multiple camping trips and sporting events.

Would this work as a UPS? It is not much more expensive than a 12v "mini ups" on Amazon...

Do they make a portable battery charger, that is physically about this size, but, has a huge capacity and is only capable of charging cell phones and tablets?

Personally, I wouldn't have the need for one of these to be able to charge a laptop or any household appliances. However, I think that it would be great, to have one of these that has something like a 200,000 or 300,000 mAh capacity and could charge a modern-day cell phone, 20 or 30 or 40 or 50 times.

Is there such a charging device that has already been made and is available to be purchased?

How does this compare to the ecoflows that were often posted here?

These units have no fail over, so they aren't ideal for use as a UPS with anything data-sensitive.

But if you're just trying to keep a laptop going a bit longer before it hibernates, it does effectively function how a UPS would.

Just remember to plug it into a surge protector.

Would you mind explain it a bit? Does it mean the power station will fail somehow?

You're somewhat describing this.

The AC inverter is isolated from the DC USB ports, so you can get a straight DC-DC connection to charge your devices. Just pretend the AC doesn't exist.

If you want something purely DC, there are massive power banks which you could just stack and build into a toolbox.

They won't be 300000 mAh, because that's purely unreasonable (you're looking at 1100 watt hours there). But 20000 mAh (~74 Wh) is not hard to come by.

Another consideration is finding some way to charge the battery, so you essentially don't need such a massive battery. Foldable solar panels are cheap and I'm sure there's some mechanical effort chargers that could tide you over if you get desperate.

Most UPSes have a data connection (typically USB on consumer units) to talk to the device they're supporting in order to indicate when they're about to deplete beyond being able to keep the device running.

This would tell the device that it's time to shut down (or hibernate), rather than just kill the power abruptly.

Yes, there are a few DC-only power stations. Here's one example:

Let's ballpark a phone battery at roughly 4V and 5Ah. That's 20Wh of capacity. This device stores 256Wh, so it can charge a modern phone 12-13 times from 0-100%. In reality many phones will operate at lower than 4V and have a capacity below 5Ah. The iPhone 15 is about 17.1 Wh, so you can charge it coincidentally 15 times 0-100% with this device. You're pretty cavalier throwing out a range of 20 to 50 charges -- energy is pretty linear so it takes 2.5x the capacity to charge 2.5x as much. An Anker 737 power bank is roughly 88 Wh, so a little more than 1/3 the capacity of the 521 here. 3 power banks will be physically smaller than one 521, but will also cost 2x as much.

You can charge this device with a solar panel. It has a DC input.

I know the EcoFlow Power Stations can act as an UPS, it will automatically switches to its battery supply mode within 30 milliseconds. But not sure if other mfg has this feature. The EcoFlow may cost a bit more, but with this feature it's not just sitting there waiting for power outage or camping trip to use, as it can be used as an UPS.
