Features:
  • Turbo Full Power 2.0E Motor and 530 Wh Battery- Integrated into the aluminum frame of the Tero 3.0, they effectively quadruple your own power, cranking out ample wattage to make short work of the steepest climbs and providing enough extra muscle to let you carry a mountain of adventure gear, groceries, kids and daydreams without breaking a sweat. It's you, only faster. But what really sets this motor apart from the rest is how efficiently and seamlessly it melds with your own efforts.
  • Specialized app and MasterMind - Specialized app allows you to tailor Tero's power output levels to your desired preference—all three standard power modes can be almost infinitely adjusted to suit your power and range needs. MasterMind's MicroTune function can adjust power output levels in 10% increments so that you can tune the range to suit your needs.
  • Mountain Bike DNA- Tero's componentry is tailored to enhance control and confidence. Aggressive but smooth rolling 29" wheels with 2.3" Ground Control tires offer ample traction in every situation, SRAM disc brakes deliver substantial braking bite, 110 mm of front suspension travel smooths the trail.
  • Turbo System Lock - Use the Specialized app to disable your bike's motor and activate the motion sensor alarm. Once locked, the motor cannot be enabled again except by the owner.
  • Fender, Rack, and Kickstand mounts. Rated to pull a thru-axle trailer. Child seat compatible.
  • Long-Range - With a ride-anywhere range, go up to 68 miles (110 km) or 5 hours on a single charge (eco mode).

There is a large difference between an ebike from a major bike manufacturer and an e-bike bike manufacturer.
I've ridden bikes from Aventon, RadPower and Juiced and those are very heavy bikes. You would need to almost exclusively have the motor on at all times.
On the other hand, e-bikes form Specialized, Giant, Trek, etc generally have smaller motors and batteries, but are way lighter and ride like a non-e-bike.

It's going to be tough to find something new, from the second category above, that is under $2000. I think your best bet is to look at Canyon's sale or outlet sections for either an trail or XC mountain bike, or even one of their electric gravel bikes since it seems like your desired riding leans more towards flat terrain.
I am personally partial to Trek due to their customer service and being that I live near a clearance center. I have an e-caliber and I love it, but I would never have bought it at it's retail price. I have a friend who has a Specialized Turbo Levo and he really likes it. He also bought it at a deep discount.
I hope this helps. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.

Not bad, but what is the purpose of this bike? Pretty low end components for mountain biking, so it's basically a commuter bike that looks cool...

That's kind of the feeling I'm getting on this bike as well. The price had me interested. Would this be able to be taken on some basic mountain biking trails (I do nothing serious when it comes to mountain biking).

I'm considering the trek Marlin 6+. At $2699, it's obviously more expensive. But with Bosch electronics, repairability over the long run should be better. And it is actually made as an entry level to mountain biking trails

For entry level components you should check out the Hyper Mid drive full suspension emtb. It has a great torque sensing motor and weighs around the same as a Specialized Levo Alloy. It actually rides decent on green and blue trails and can be upgraded pretty easily. Can be had on vipoutlet for under $1k. Much better value than this. Check the YouTube reviews. I have one and it's an amazing value for the money.

I would call this a paved path bike that will smooth out the sidewalk cracks. It isn't a mountain bike and this line isn't designed to compete with their Turbo Levo or Turbo Kenevo lines. I agree this is a commuter bike that is somewhat cooler looking than the usual stuff.

Is it really much of a shock that it isn't as good as a $4000 Canyon or $5000 Orbea? They should've been comparing the Tero 5.0 to those bikes.

This looks like the Quietkat e-bikes that went on clearance at Lowe's for $1799....Seems like you'll be in for more than the bike is worth.

Some uphills are made doable with the electric. The majority of the thrill is the downhill part, of course highly depends on what kind of riding you do.

Do you have any recommendations for a better bike below $2000?

Reading the description, Specialized isn't marketing this as a mountain bike. The thread title is misleading, as Specialized calls it an Active bike and notes that it has mounts for racks, kick stand, etc.
I also can't see whether this is a Class 2 or Class 3 ebike? Anyone find top speed listed anywhere?

tell that to "real" mountain bikers who love the fact they can cover more trails in a days session.
