FWIW, we tried a bunch of different ones and ended up with this:

Recently got it for around $60. It is 4 inches vs. 2 inches here.
We definitely didn't like the flat (no contours) variety. We also tried 3 inch medium depth contours and it was ok but not quite ideal. Then we tried the 4 inch deep contours in the link above and it is perfect.
Prior to this, we had a standard foam (not memory foam) deep egg crate style and it was nice but falling apart.
But, everyone is different, so this might work for you. However, Walmart recently had 2 inch memory foam for around $20, so that's what I consider a deal. A deal on 3 inch would be around $30-$35.

I think the lavender thing is just a marketing gimmick. I've got a good sniffer and couldn't smell a thing.
