Project farm did a review of alot of brands, and while they did well they weren't class leading.
Ryobi 18v Quietstrike + 1 3/4" desk screws.

I prefer torx myself (as anyone should) but a half decent screw should handle a Philips bit on an impact without issue. Either a poorly made screw or improper technique if they cam out bad.
