11 cores, 18GB memory - those are such weird numbers. what is it - 8+8+2GB memory config in 3 banks?
Isn't Apple about to announce new MBP's soon?
With Apple silicon (m series), DDR is not on the motherboard but instead it's mounted/fused on top of CPU. It's one single 18GB RAM chip.

Can someone who knows about Macbooks chime in? Should I get this or a rotisserie chicken?
You don't need someone than knows MacBooks. You have people here that know Costco and Slick Deals. So, obviously, the answer is you should get both.

I'll still maintain that the M1 MacBook Pro is the slickest of them all - best price to performance ratio, and still more than enough for most users.

Negligible real world use difference between M1 and M3 for 95% of users.

I would get an M1 on sale (if I didn't already own one) and put that saved $500 into Bitcoin, and enjoy the upside of the 2025 bull market. You're welcome.

M1 is good but it only supports one external screen. I support all the variations as I work in IT>

I agree, even for sw developers and advanced users the difference is simply not there. M1 was a massive jump, M2/3 have been marginal even according to Apple.
The problem is Macbooks rarely have good deals. I'm hoping for some good deals on Zen 5 this Black Friday, that should be an affordable M1/M2 competitor

thats an artificial limitation by Apple. I think the Max doesn't have it.

you can price match at apple upto 10% and apply military or first responder or whatever they have for another 10%. if you have apple gc, you can use that on top to pay. Also do keep in mind the first week of August is tax holiday in some states for school supplies.
tax holiday is for laptops below 1500$

That's $85. Is that amount worth it over an additional year of warranty? What's the likelihood of it having issues after a year? Really, up to you. From my experience dealing with Apple for my devices out of warranty, replacing/repairing usually means I'm spending more than $85. Last time I brought in my iPad Pro to have the Geniuses check the USB C port for a charge issue, not only were they unable to diagnose the issue, they told me since it is out of warranty, the best I can do is pay $800-900 for a replacement iPad Pro. So I'll take the 4% Costco and 2 year warranty.
