I don't care how cheap it is, I will never fly Spirit again!!! NEVER! I would rather pay more to know a plane will actually show up, allow for bags (which if you compare prices, typically washes out even if you select an "adult" airline), don't get abandoned on different trips or multiple times in one trip, and actually provide customer service.

NEVER! (lol)

You have to know whay you are getting. I've flown Spirit & Frontier many times. I'm also an admiral's club member on American. If it's a quick get away and you put you clothes in a travel backpack, it's all good. Buy candy and a drink at the airport, download Netflix movies. We been been delayed twice with about 15 fligjts, delay was an hr each time. Chairs are not the most comfortable, but you get what you pay for. When I go to McDonald's I don't expect filet mignon

Just one of the many bad experiences:

Had a trip booked to Cancun: PHL -> DAL -> CUN. In DAL, our layover was delayed... originally it stated a tech issue but eventually they claimed that it was weather related and that the flight to CUN was cancelled. Everyone was rebooked for the next morning but since they claimed "weather" we were on our own (i.e. they abandoned us in the airport). Fortunately, I had hotel points and booked a hotel with no additional out of pocket costs. We arrived in Cancun a day late. Because we were late we pushed everything back a day to ensure we got our full week there. On the return flight: CUN -> MCO (I believe MCO but could have been another Florida airport, I don't know we never made it) -> PHL. We arrived at the airport well ahead of time and waited at our gate. The flight to Florida was delayed for hours due to a tech issue. The whole time they provided sporadic updates stating that they were getting the issue fixed. Eventually, after we were delayed ~3 hours, they started asking if people would be willing to give up their seats, get $400 in vouchers, and be given a hotel for the night and new flights for the next day. (I know, I could have gotten good cash but didn't know that back then). They stated that they were replacing our plane with another that was smaller/less seats. Wife and I decided that we won't make the layover in Florida and would rather stay an extra night in Cancun than Florida so we gave up our seats. We then proceeded to another gate to get setup. After we were setup, we then waited another 5 hours until they finally cancelled the original flight. Hundreds of people then showed up from that flight to our gate to get their accommodations. We then waited another 2 hours while they sorted everyone out. Eventually, the early people were told to go to a pickup location to be driven to our hotel. We then watched 3 busses show up, pickup everyone else, and then leave before we were eventually picked up by a passenger van. This took roughly another 2 hours. We arrived at the hotel / "resort" to stand in line behind the other hundreds of passengers. Eventually, we made it thru, were told that the restaurant would remain open late for us as we hadn't eaten in hours, and got to our room. It was taking so long to shuttle everyone to their rooms, it was a very wide resort, that we decided to walk. Eventually, we were picked up and then driven to our room. I mentioned the restaurant because when we arrived we were told they were closed. (I just went past and got my wife and I food anyway) The next morning our shuttle was late picking us up to return to the airport. Fortunately, our flight was delayed 2 hours so we didn't miss it. In the end, we arrived home 2 days late (due to the delays there and then back). The stress of this was that we were supposed to get home on Friday but arrived home on Sunday with Monday being the first day of school for our daughter (8 y/o) who did not go with us. She was staying with Grandma due to the pandemic closing the passport offices. We ended up getting her home at 11:30 at night.

But it doesn't end there...

The following year, during the summer, when we used our vouchers, they only covered part of our flights and we used cash/credit card. We booked flights but then Spirit changed the flights to a point where it did not work for us, so we were able to reschedule for a later day. We then realized that we couldn't do the trip, and since we were inside of the reschedule window, we reached out to rescheduled. Spirit would not allow us to cancel or reschedule because were "outside" of the original window from when we first booked the original flight during the summer NOT when it was rescheduled. They refused to return any of our money, AMEX denied our claim, and we were looking out of luck. The only saving grace was that Spirit rescheduled the flight which allowed us to cancel and get our money back. We never got the vouchers back. After that, I vowed to NEVER use Spirit again... no matter the savings. I would rather pay more and get to where I need to.

Sounds like connection flights are prone to delays, especially due to summer weather. I just took the same IAH-PHL round trip with no delays, just before that Friday computer glitch.

It's not just "connecting" flights, it's anything that may not be the first flights of the day... Spirit's real issue is that they have a very small fleet and if they run into any issues, they don't have planes to help recover.

All of their planes route in some type of circle. So, the same plane may go from PHL - ORD - DAL and back to PHL and around again. The first flight of the day has the benefit of recovering from any late arrival from the previous day and time to fix any issues the plane may have. After that, there is no depth to recover. For example, if the PHL - ORD is late, the plane still makes it there for the direct flights but that plane is then going to be late to DAL and then PHL and around again until the day ends. Again, since they don't have extra planes, they can't recover until the day ends. Add on top of that how they nickel and dime you and then their CS is the worst bane of existence, and you get why I have chosen to never use them again.
