decent price these days and wattage is workable. Your deep freezer or fridge doesn't need runing 24 hours. Buy this and a fridge freeze alarm, you'll only need to run for an hour every 6-8 hours if that. Rest of your wattage can run a midea or other ac (inverter preferably so it can ramp down). Keeps you in that 25% load and if on an all electric home , just buy led lanterns you have a grill (or get a small camping lp stove). recharge lanterns devices, etc when getting the fridge freezers back to temp. Good to buy rechargale stuff when you have these ....fans, lanterns, etc they all last until you gotta run it for the fridge. really no need for extended run times.

I got too many generators but im in for one for my moms place, easier to set this up to run a window unit, then if it's gonna be a big one i have bigger inverters as well.

I was looking to see if it can charge my EV. 😄 🤣

but in all seriousness it like like an 1800w running unit. and will do 9 hours @ 450w.
a 12k btu midea u shaped ac runs about 450 to 500w when going full speed. so you'll be able to get a whole days worth of ac for 1 gal of fuel.
most likely even more as the AC uses an inverter and can ramp down to 100w.
just looking into it for my use case and thought I'd post my findings

someone posted on the next page that their midea u shaped pull 1100w.
I have a kill a watt meter and I've used the AC for 940 hrs I've used 230kWh.
after 30 days (720hrs) I've only used 168kWh.
it drops down to below 100w when on eco mode. and I've only ever seen it go up to 550w or so when dropping the temp to 68⁰ when it's 90⁰ outside

I guess take the information and it should give a decent example of what to expect 🤷

added: after testing out other devices connect to my kill a watt meter. and turning off the AC unit for 10 minutes while I tested the meter. I found my AC unit will ramp up to 1120w / 12A when first turned on but then after 10 to 15 minutes it ramped down to 945w. so everything is working out correctly. I think because I run it 24/7 in Eco and Auto mode it doesn't need to go full tilt to keep the room cool to 72⁰f.
so yes the AC will pull over 1100w but will ramp down shortly after depending on how hot your room is and how insulated it is.
so probably expected your AC to pull more energy than mine.

either way this generator will be able to run an inverter window AC without issues if the running wattage is 1800w. you will just need more fuel and to refill sooner rather than 9 hours. and if you have an inverter AC then there shouldn't be that initial Amperage spike when first turning on.
hope all of this helps you 👍

Someone needs a new kill a watt meter.
Two new Midea 12k BTU units. Both start at 500-600 watts ramps up to 1100-1200 usually then as needed it adjusts.
Since that is in line with what everyone else has been saying around 1100 I would say time for a replacement kill a watt meter or you aren't getting 12k btu out of your AC.
Hmm. Good idea. I'll grab a new one and see if there is a difference. But so far electric bill isn't that different than normal. And I run another midea window heat pump every night at 70⁰f from 830pm to 730am.
In the mean time I'll go see what the electric meter says when it's running.
But it keeps the room perfectly chill. It would suck to have to replace it because it's not giving full power.
Thanks for the info.

The WEN 4000 watt inverter at $299 with no sales tax is also a good deal direct from their site. It's also on this site as a deal. 2 Days mine took and I have them hooked up in parallel at 8000w of clean power.

They are open frame and noisy, but not noisy like a non-invertor generator.
yeah good play at that price. Buy a cheap small flat bed cart to put them on so just gotta wheel em out. Only thing with the parallel is no 240 and 8000 120w is generally overkill for those circuits, and it's 2 things to manage oil changes, etc, BUT you can't beat having a backup at those prices it's cheap insurance, and it allows you to run 1/2 load or less as well as having plenty of juice for couple 120v 12000btu 120 splits or less window units.

I live in a condo buy after Beryl I think I need one of these. I am only looking to run my fridge and a fan or 2. It's a condo so my fridge is not very large. ould this inverter get the job done? I am on second floor but I can chain the inverter to my carport pose downstairs with a longer extension cord. Don't feel safe with on my back balcony

easily, a fullsize fridge typically uses 400-500 watts when compressor is on,which will happen infrequently, fans, nothing, well within this generators spec. You don't need to run 24/7 get this and a fridge, freezer alarm. i typically only run my generator every 6 or 7 hours and that's typically overkill and 1 fridge and deep freeze is in fl garage, i do though move some stuff from fridge to freezer , cetain things.i have 2 fridges, 1 deep fridge and above is all i need overnight the temp doesn't move much more than 5deg they really are insulated well these days to not need much coddling. You can help by packing a cooler with ice pakcs for frequent accessed stuff. When you run the fridge to bring up to temp (not typically needed more than 30m 1h) charge phones, led lanterns, rechargable fans (is my suggestion)..all reasonable priced. You'd last easily a week with a can of gas.

Yeah i wouldn't run on the balcony. Your minimal use case would actually fit one of the battery inverters (although super expensive for what little storage they provide)...but if you could schedule like i mention above they would be reasonable although expensive for your case.

you should be prepared also to learn how to drain the carb , because they will sit for long periods year or even years, test periodically

Gas generator...would be good...to charge...a solar inverter... 🤣

I have nothing against Ecoflow, but in this case, just call it a battery...
The ecoflow pro ultra I just got has a 12kw battery and a 7500watt inverter.. im looking for a small genny to top it off with about 6kw a day we use in a power outtage.

So, a small quiet efficient generator running 4 hours to cover the house for 24 hours. And that is after i run my ev car battery low since it has 72kw of power I can charge the pro ultra with using a dc step up converter plugged into the solar input... and assuming the 800watt of solar panels cant keep up.

Meanwhile all the neighbors have giant generators because they need 240v and 5500 watts to handle their well pumps.

Probably it can, especially if your sump pump plugs into a regular 120V outlet, which will typically have a 15A breaker. V x I = P, i.e. voltage (in Volts) x current (in Amps) = power (in Watts). So 120V x 15A = 1800W. This machine is rated for 1800W running and 2300W peak.

12k btu midea u shape uses over 1100w at full power. I have 3 of them installed right now from Costco. Tried using smart plug but it would shut off because it pulled more than 10amps.
Yes, can confirm, installed mine after replacing old 5000 btu honeywell. It does pull 1100+watts at full draw, and about 500-600 during its normal settings, fan takes 27 watts. Too much for a little inverter like my firman 2000i, but should be okay on this one if it really can deliver 15 amps

As this particular model is new-ish, there are not a lot of reviews on it. But a YouTube video shows it supporting at least a 1.7 KW (1700W) load while simultaneously running a 1500W heat gun on high, a mini-fridge, and a 5 ft^3 freezer. Go to about 15:35 in this video and you'll see it running the 1.7 KW load:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pNskn5Q-tPU

1700W / 120V = 14.167A. So not a guarantee of 15A with this specific test, but close...

Yeah, this is my reading of it, too. Hopefully, they have a decent quantity available and they do not sell out quickly... I'm not worried about it because I already have one--I'm just going for a $120 price adjustment because I paid full price a short while ago.

Since that is in line with what everyone else has been saying around 1100 I would say time for a replacement kill a watt meter or you aren't getting 12k btu out of your AC.
Ok so I tested my kill a watt meter with an electric resistive heater.
And I was hitting on point where low medium and high were. Then I turned off my AC for a bit while I tested the kill a watt meter. And once I plugged it back in and set it to max cool, 60⁰f, and eco mode off. It has now ramped up to 12A /1130w.
So now I know it's neither the AC or the kill a watt meter.
And I'm thinking because the room never gets above 74⁰f, as I keep it set to 72⁰f all day and night... it doesn't need to ramp up the compressor to cool the room down. Especially since I always have it set in eco mode.
The house is very well insulated and with black out curtains(makes a bigger difference over blinds, and I still get some light as the curtains
are set 1.5in away from the wall.)
So maybe on ramp up it will run at 1100w when first getting started but after it's been running for awhile it goes down to 450w to 600w for me.

But repped 👍 for giving feedback. After checking everything out I know things are working out OK.

For anyone looking for reliable backup power for their home (not camping) I'm hotter climates, I would recommend the open frame inverters (like hurricane situations) you can get a champion inverter 3200/4250 for like $400 when they go on sale a few times per year.opem frames are easier to work on, have bigger tanks and work better in heat...
Where have you seen this go on sale? I'll keep an eye out
