Do not buy these with the intention of using them with emulators.

The problem is that although they establish a Bluetooth connection, the buttons are mapped incorrectly or not at all at least in Android devices. The same is true for SNES switch controllers.

Another potential issue is that they only charge with a joycon charger not with a USB port.

You would need a Nintendo Switch Online subscription for buying these controllers in the first place, and unfortunately for playing any classic NES games.

Yea I got mine a couple years ago and they've worked great. My kids and I only use them about once or twice a month though on average

Paid $34.99 in January, 2022: have occasionally used them, but in all honesty bought them more for the nostalgia than the practicality - they do have to docked on opposite sides of Switch to charge, which can be tedious, but otherwise they are cool to have when playing NES games…

They work great with my Linux PC, Windows PC and my android devices. Go into your settings and toggle a thing or 2.

Thanks, I was confused by this post.

I assume that android is the limitation here and that any desktop OS like Windows/Linux based shouldn't have an issue remapping Bluetooth controller buttons.
I had no problems with these on Android

Are you able to purchase this from nintendo.com with a gift card from Nintendo eShop?

FYI, I use them on my NES Classic and they work great. The corded controllers are just too short but these fix that problem. I use an 8Bitdo Bluetooth NES Retro Receiver and never had any issues.

Just so you are aware there is another application for them where an online subscription isn't needed.

Will these work with the NES Classic console? I hate the short cable on the controller that comes with the console. Makes it totally non usable in my case.
Yes, but you need a receiver. I use an 8Bitdo Bluetooth NES Retro Receiver. I only ever play by myself and only have one receiver but from what I've read, you can't have two receivers because it doesn't work (they get confused). Not sure if it's true or not because I only bought one receiver and never could test it. Haha If you want a second player, you might have to give them a corded controller.

True, you can probably remap the buttons on PC, Linux, etc.

However, on Android TV, Chromecast, etc, which I primarily use emulators to play games with family, the Nintendo controllers cannot be remapped and are unable the navigate the UI, unlike every single bluetooth controller out there.

My point is that Nintendo, somewhat similar to Apple, intentionally handicaps their hardware in exchange for increased sale of their online subscription and keeping users in "the ecosystem".

I verified you can use the controllers from the NES classic mini and connect them to the bottom of a Wiimote, then pair the Wiimote to the Switch using a MAYFLASH Magic. It allowed me to play NES championship perfectly, but you don't have the top two buttons to forfit a game.
