You can always turn off motion smoothing on almost all TVs, that's the first thing I do when I get the tv. I almost always use film maker mode if available for watching most of the content.

This will likely be a lot better, size and picture quality.

If you hang onto your TVs for a long time I would get something with better PQ. TCL makes some nice mid range mini-LED TVs, but you'll pay around double for it.

The fun thing is determining what they call it in the settings. Usually has the word 'motion' in it or 'reduction'. I've seen it as motion compensation, noise reduction, blur reduction, motion smoothing, etc... I pickup on the extra frames quickly and it drives me crazy too - makes it look super artificial/weird to me.

Same here. I have an old 55" 1080 LG tv that I watch sometimes and imho picture quality on that size TV from more than 10' away seems just as clear as the 4k I watch. This may be different if you're much closer or on a larger screen, but that's my 2 cents.

Motion smoothing can be found on both 60 and 120 hz panels. I just made the switch to oled 120 hz.

I prefer the motion processing on my 10 yo TCL 60hz panel.

Colors do pop on the oled though.

Right. But without the motion smoothing you would see screen judder per that article. With 60Hz panels you either need extra frames inserted (the soap opera effect you mentioned) or deal with the screen judder.

All of that said, I have both 60 and 120Hz panels in my house and haven't noticed a difference watching movies so shows what I know 🤷

Biggest thing between 60 and 120 is smoothness and it really makes a difference with movement, especially movies, sports, video games. Idk if you would really notice so it night just be a sweet 70 inch display!

ive got an qled version which looks amazing with high refresh rate. Having said that i work for a company that has two year old TCL versions like this and they've slowly been crapping out. You get what you pay for. If you want a big tv for 1-2 football seasons, this checks the box.

That's interpolation, or motion smoothing (often called soap opera effect). Almost all modern TVs have this feature, and you can turn it on or off depending on your tastes. 120hz TV's are really only important for gaming, and the minority of people that are highly susceptible to the 24fps judder of modern TV's. For most people, it will make no difference. I have a 120hz VRR TV in my living room, but that's only because I game, and those features (VRR especially) are beneficial for gaming.

I'm in the same boat. It's a 55" LG 3D model I've been waiting to die so I can get another. It's been 84 years....
