According to Quicken site the codes are good for 1 year after purchase and can only be applied in the last 6 months of a current subscription. Seems unlikely you can use for 2 years unfortunately. These go on sale throughout the year, so usually can pick them up for about this price.

Looks like it's not just for "new subscribers"? So I can buy 2 years then?

Anyone have any experience using this vs You Need A Budget (YNAB)? YNAB emailed me not too long ago saying they're raising my subscription price (again) and at this price Quicken is less than a third of the cost. My impression was that Quicken was more for business bookkeeping but I really don't know as I've never used it.

Hold on... it still works, no?

What if I activate with my first code now (I have no current sub). Then -- after 6 months -- I use the second code to add 12 more months. That would be in the last 6mo of then current sub, and the second code would still be good (according to what you said.) Am I missing anything?

You're exactly correct. Buy two. Redeem one now, redeem the other in 6-11 months.

I've tried that before and the second code expired before I could use it. If today was the expiration date for your Quicken, you could only have used these code between 1/22/24 and today. That means the 12 month expiration of these codes (or perhaps less, NewEgg support couldn't clarify for me) will expire by 7/22/2025 and you can't use the second until after 1/22/2025. I typed this quickly, so hopefully it still makes sense.

I'm sorry, I misread that you don't have a sub today. I think that would work. I have to go back and look at why my second sub expired before I could use it. Maybe at that time it was not clear that the codes were good for 12 months, and as I said NewEgg support seemed to indicate that they could expire any time, promoting the idea that you should use the code immediately.

I don't have any Quicken though, expired or otherwise.
What if I activate it on 8/01/2024 (for example) -- use the 1st code
Reactivate after 6 months on 4/01/2025 -- use the 2nd code. Still well before 12 months, its supposed expiration date
Why wouldn't that work?

Totally different animals. YNAB is a point solution for budgeting/tracking. Quicken is for full-view personal financial tracking. Budgeting is one of the many things that can be done is Quicken.

It sounds like it would, however they go on sale at this price at alot of places around tax time (around your proposed 4/1/2025) so you'll be very likely to be able to pick one up then with no risk.

Yes, I agree it should work and am sorry to create confusion or doubt.

What's the benefit of this vs just a decent excel sheet?

For me the benefit isn't just the data entry, tracking, and reporting, but I have about 15 accounts that I download and semi-automatically reconcile weekly. Any mismatches or fraudulent charges and I find them very quickly without logging in to 15+ accounts per week.

I would like to switch to a non-subscription product but I haven't found one for a better price. I also have been a user since the 90s before they went to subscription. My download functionality is what they cut off when the product expires.
