No one needs it. They *want* it, and they want it to watch media in high quality at an appropriate size based on their viewing distance.

What is this TV?A Tier Below U6N? Comparable TCL Q6?
Yes I would say this QD7N series is comparable to the 2024 TCL Q651G series.

This QD7N series is quantum dot, 144Hz, full-array (direct-lit), no local dimming. The U6N series is quantum dot, mini-led w/ local dimming, but only 60Hz. In selecting between the QD7N and U6N... I guess one just chooses by which features are more important.

The U7N also has quantum dot tech. This Q series (i.e. QD7N) sits below the U series (i.e. U7N). The U7N adds at least... mini-led, local dimming, more brightness. I would say this 85" QD7N is very similar to the 2024 TCL 85" Q651G series (120Hz) that Rtings has not rated.

Thanks I couldn't find much with a quick google. And their site was typically unhelpful with the marketese.

Need and want are going to mean a lot of different things to a lot of different people. Never ever assume you know what others need or want. This 85" pays for itself if, your "need" is to save money, and one of the ways you want to achieve this is by cutting out very expensive trips to the movie theater where, 4 tickets, drinks and snacks might cost you $125 dollars. I could give many examples where this might be a good purchase. Another reason this might be a need is that this is a native 144hz display. There are a lot of gamers that game competitively, even at home. The larger screen gives gamers a better level and sense of awareness, that the 144hz, is going to give gamers an advantage over other gamers that might be gaming at 60hz. In many books, that's a "need." I have the 85" H8 Mini-LED and with my sofa about 10' away, watching Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga was incredible. I will never go to the movies again. My next goal is to buy a 100" TV.
Seems like a management crash course on Need vs Want

I just got the 85u7 deal on prime day. Bedroom tv is roughly 15 feet from the bed. Upgraded from a 65 inch and could not be happier. The extra size is incredible and the picture quality is great. Did I need it? No. But I will never go back to a smaller tv at this distance now that I have glimpsed nirvana
Did it heat up your bedroom? I live in Florida and this is a real issue.

Actually 85u7 is not as bright at 1000 nitts vs the 65 we had (which my wife loves since it's mostly used at bed time). No issues in a bright room either, plenty bright. Think its probably more energy efficient, too. So no, nothing noticeable here in MI

Also, live in Michigan with two windows facing north behind the TV. I have an old LCD tv and the glare on it is awful. Looking to switch to a new tv with less glare from the windows? Would this work well? I was looking at mini-LED tvs.
