$16.79 after 40% off Amazon coupon that you have to clip. Coupons are typically one-use.

I've owned a couple of these over the years - they work well and last longer than the Taylor meat thermometers you might pick up at Walmart or Target. However, they do have a flaw.

Keep the main unit dry. Don't let the battery department get wet at all - they suck up water and the contacts rust easily. I've lost two of these digital thermometers that way. I think I might add some DIY water resistance to the next one. Mine typically last about a year before I make a mistake, get it wet, it rusts, and dies.

I am in for one. My last one is starting to rust in the battery compartment again, as mentioned. Still works, but it's iffy and is going to break.

How long did it last and how well did it work?

Used ones like this a lot. I agree with OP that water typically kills them (ie you leave it next to the grill , it rains, and you hope it still works....)
I've never had a govee meat therm, but I do have several of their other devices and they are fantastic!
In for 1.

What also kills this is a thermometer app that wants your contacts and pictures.

Can you use this with the grill cover or the oven door closed? Won't the wires get kinked or bent?

About a year, but it's less about time and more about me being careless and letting it get wet.

I never granted that, and usually don't even use the Bluetooth features. The on-device buttons and alarms are just fine.

I'll only use the app if I'm roasting a turkey or something that takes hours, and it works fine only granting location and notification permissions.

Yes, they get kinked, but they are pretty flexible. You just unkink them, no problem.

Id really prefer one probe though. Tangled wires are annoying.

Not sure if the thermometer app is the same as their other smart device app. The app I have for various sensors (water leaks, humidity, etc.) uses the camera to scan the QR code on the back of the devices during setup. I think they have a referral program which may be why they ask for contacts, but you can definitely reject that one.

I've had a few of these types of meat thermometers and they seem to all go out in less than a year. I finally decided to spend the money on a thermapen one and despite not having the smart funtions it's more reliable and a better experience over all.

I have a different model of Govee meat thermometer, and I will say, their brand is the only brand that still lasts after numerous grilling. Other brands I bought prior, all failed after after couple uses.

It uses the same app, but the app still works without allowing picture access, for both thermometer and smart home devices.

It's not a thermometer app, it's smart home app. Thermometer just uses the same app.
