I bought the 2020 version of this computer. It's been rock solid and honestly the best laptop I've ever had. I never really use the tablet function but love the small and lightweight form factor.
Poop screen 45% ntsc will be dull and washed out

Any reason I wouldn't buy this for my girlfriend? She doesn't game and she wants to get into digital art. She has an old macbook right now and a cheap wacom tablet i bought 10 years ago.

We're going to be traveling for a few months and i'd love something portable that also uses USB-C to charge as that's what i have
I would not get this if your girlfriend is going to get at all serious about digital art. You don't need the best equipment just to start, but you do want at least a screen that has a good color gamut so that you can actually see good contrast when you do colorful stuff. As another commenter said, it's only 45% NTSC. I'm not an artist, but I would guess they go for at least 100% sRGB screens (I think this is equal to 72% NTSC).

Though I guess you could use a cheaper laptop hooked up to a nicer monitor, too, if you already have one.

Dammit, was about to buy but did just a little more checking, and the problems with hinges breaking come up so often I'm nervous. I always buy full warranty, including ADP, but then I read up on Lenovo CS, and saw that people have hella problems with getting them to actually honor the on-site service. So now I'm unsure what the hell to buy, I like to stick to brands with good on-site warranty, which for me has always been Dell, and Lenovo has it too, but I didn't know how well they honored it.

All the Dells anywhere in my price range (and those over) have reports of incredibly loud fan issues for the last few years, otherwise I'd just stick with them. I can always get the on-site service when needed with Dell (they try, like all of them, to get you to send it in even when you have on-site warranty, but at least with Dell, if you just say no, I paid for on-site service, they go ahead and send out a tech - though the last few times, it was a really crappy tech). Anyway, damn.

That doesn't look like a 2k display though.

It's not, theyre just exploited 4k marketing to describe the standard pixels of 16:10
1920 x 1200 = 2.3k
But yeah, I agree, I hate the 2k, 2.5k, 2.8k, 3k etc terminology.

Anyone have comments on this laptop? Looks good to me. Not sure if I should wait a week for tax free weekend to see what deals there are then (which is next weekend where I am).
All Lenovo 360 hinges will become stiff and break screen corners. Lenovo tries to blame it on the user and even in rare cases where they replace the hinges for free, new hinges will become stiff again. Read below one of the many threads about this issue that you can find online.

You're way better off taking a risk on a $600 laptop then pouring money down the warranty hole.

Last night said screw it, I need a new laptop, ordered it, now I regret it and it won't let me cancel. urgh. I'd prefer to cancel rather than return because I have $75 back from Amex, which will be redeemed once they ship this and I assume I will then lose that option to use again once I return the laptop. Looking into more stuff, I realize I'd rather have a thinkpad if I can find one on sale, they seem sturdier. No idea why I didn't realize this before, it was something I read after buying about them having better build quality and less likely to have hinge problems. Oh well, whatever, hope the return process is good.

Would she want to use Windows instead of MacOS? Some people get used to an operating system and prefer it.

If you are willing to pay a lot more, Thinkpad will obviously be better, but good luck finding a new unit with these specs even close in price. Lenovo outlet is still selling X1 Yoga with 12th gen i7 for $800+ (when they pop up on sale). By the time you can get a 14th gen unit for similar price, Intel will already have their 16th gen processors out 😂

Yeah, but I didn't really need/want all of these specs, it had the basic things I wanted and several other specs I didn't care about at all and would be fine with them being "less." Like, I'm not looking at or caring about getting the latest gen processor as you mentioned, it's not on my list, among other things. A Thinkpad that met the specs I was looking for and maybe cost up to a couple hundred bucks more would've worked for me had I understood there's a build difference before ordering. I'll decide when it comes whether to keep or return.

I have this exact laptop. It's nice, but coming from having exclusively used ThinkPads for my home PC, the build feels different. This is a heavier laptop. the power button on the side does feel mushy as well. Of course, I'm missing the track point.
No real complaints otherwise.

How are the hinges holding up? I've seen lots of complaints on hinges for these Lenovos. Of course, we have two thinkpads in the house, and no hinge problems yet (one is my Chromebook for travel/bedside email machine, and my husband had a Windows thinkpad). Both of those are a couple of years old. I'm very tempted by this one, though. Need a new laptop soon, my current Dell is getting to where I have to constantly adjust the power cord as it won't charge if not connected just so (and the battery life is no longer any good, nearly 5 yrs old). I expect any day to find I can't get power to the darn thing at all, at which point it's not really worth it to me to pay to fix it.
Same experience as the other user saying they purchased in 2020. Got the yoga 7 around the same time and love how snappy it is while being super lightweight and travel friendly. Hinges are still stiff as if they were new. (Still have the plastic coverings on them after all this time) best laptop I've ever had so far as well.
