FWIW I have a few Astro Pneumatics sets and they are all very nice. If I am looking for a set I just buy their brand because I haven't had any issues with their stuff
I would pick these up if they were metric. Most automotive stuff is metric and while I am sure there is a use for these, I can't really see a large use case for SAE.
I have the 1/2" metric set, is an absolute life saver working on cars and needing the short sockets for some tight spots on cars. These work great for brake caliper brackets that might not allow for a normal length socket and a ratchet to fit.
Also, I believe these also have a flat face, without the recessed curved part on the bolt side end like on normal sockets, so these could also potentially get you out of a bind with having more contact surface on a partially rounded nut/bolt and be able to get it off.
Astro makes some good tools but no they are not the manufacturer for these. They just buy them from the same foundry in Taiwan as everyone else. (Tien-i)[tien-i.com]
That is why the brand names are just lasered on. The sizes at least are roll stamped on the back so they won't rub right off.
Regardless these are great tools but you might as well pay less and get them from either Home Depot or Harbor Freight where their house brands are no-receipt instore swap lifetime warrantied.
Quinn $24.99 (or $18.75 after 25% off)[harborfreight.com]
Husky $24.97[homedepot.com]
Plenty of other brands make stubby impact sockets. The real beauty of this type of socket is using them as hand tool driving them w/ a 24mm wrench either to allow a long bolt to pass thru or just to get in a really tight spot.
Astro used to sell a flex head ratcheting double box wrench that was made to pair perfectly w/ these (other wrenches lack the clip to retain the socket) (78300)[astrotools.com]
Sadly they quit offering it and replaced it with one that just drives the smaller 3/8" set with 17mm head. (78318)[astrotools.com]
You can use a thin socket adapter like Gearwrench 9230D to retain the socket in a ratcheting box wrench or make your own[youtube.com] but either way you do obviously lose the pass thru.

Still, a good deal if you need them.
