Most people tend to forget the labor cost that is factored into every single item they buy. Can take all the exact same materials needed to make a good quality product, and then either pay Americans a fair wage to manufacture them, or Chinese a fraction of the wage to manufacture.
Theoretically you get the exact same tool at the end, that you can sell for say $100.
Total cost to build in America: $50
Total cost to build in China: $20
Numbers made up obviously just to give example.
High tariffs on anything imported from China would theoretically push that cost closer to $50 to encourage companies to manufacture in the US instead, where simply advertising as Made in America will fetch a higher price. Not quite that easy since there will be upfront cost (molds, equipment, etc) to build a manufacturing facility in America. Awarding these companies money to build, in order to encourage manufacturing in the US, however, brings that cost down.
It's so easy on paper. Then there's the sad reality…
Wiha pliers are made in Vietnam, not China. For some reason, Amazon incorrectly defaults to China for all German brand tools.
Someone with a seller account did that a while ago to a bunch of Wiha listings. I suspect they were also active on here as they had a hardon for Wiha and insisted all of their stuff was made in China.
There are also some Knipex tools that say they are made in China on their Amazon listings that I know for certain are made in Germany.
Just spend a bit more money on the Knipex, one of the best tools you can ever buy. I absolutely abuse my Knipex pair and use them constantly, they still work like new. Probably the only tool I would ever shill this hard for. If you want to cheap out get the harbor freight version, they at least has a lifetime warranty, wiha only does a year afaik. All the water pump pliers that aren't Knipex are generally pretty similar and I wouldn't be surprised if alot of them come from the same factory just rebadged.
Buy once cry once kinda person ay A bit more? Like $130-$160 for a set of smaller knipex? Some people don't like to burn money like that. Offer some insight maybe?

Or $107 https://tools.woot.com/offers/kni...-10-12z-14, or $55 if you only need two https://tools.woot.com/offers/kni...ers-set-17 or the budget option I even recommended. I doubt the average consumer needs three sizes of these anyways
.
How much insight and spoon feeding do you possibly need that I didn't already give? I don't see you making any type of insightful post giving a reason why you should buy these over any other brand. Because to me, they just seem like an overpriced afterthought with bad reviews and a crap warranty if you do your research.
I would buy wiha screwdrivers but probably nothing else, same thing with knipex but only water pump/wrench pliers

How do these compare to a GEARWRENCH Pitbull Auto-Bite Tongue & Groove Dual Material Pliers with K9 Jaws? I have the Gearwrench and love their auto adjustment feature.

If on a budget, I'd also recommend looking at the cheaper Knipex Alligators. The adjustment mechanism isn't as slick, but they have the same high quality as the Cobras and should perform similarly.

You're the one telling people to just buy pliers that are twice as much. Why? I'm just asking for a reason? I'm not claiming to know anything about these, you are. Why are the knipex worth twice as much? Backup your claim or maybe don't make one.
I don't think the Wihas were tested, but in the Project Farm video, the Knipex teeth were shown to put up with the most abuse and blew away the competition. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qjDG4gaiRp8

Good data but Wihas weren't tested.
