An expansion to Hero Quest?! Crazy!

Growing up, I used (try to) play this with my dad. He still has it too.

Wonder if I should get it for nostalgia sake; it's not like I understood the game as a kid though.

I'm not sure how long ago you played with your dad, but I believe they revamped it a bit when Hasbro bought it to be able to have expansions, etc. So even if you don't remember it it would probably be a new experience.

It looks like prices spiked up recently. I have been keeping an eye on a few expansions the past few months while waiting for them to update the app with the new expansions. They had been fairly consistent between 29-35$. Unless the prices are going to hold out here I'm not sure how slick this is.

That being said, even if it isn't a great deal, I hadn't seen prices dip too much lower than this and Heroquest is a great game. They have a fully narrated app that makes it a little more immersive and able to be played solo.

There were at least two expansions made for the original version of HeroQuest - Return of the Witch Lord and Kellar's Keep. At one point I owned them both.

This is a good price for this particular "large box" expansion. Lots of new expansions since the 2021 Hasbro re-release. Here's a full rundown of all expansions and the most official playing order https://elvyler.com/heroquest-quest-order/

The gameplay hasn't been changed at all from the 1989 original edition. This is a new expansion that was never a part of the original edition, however.

Honestly - I played it as a kid. A LOT. I went back and tried to play it with my wife and daughter - it's has poor mechanics and doesn't age well, IMO.

It's clunky and oddly difficult in parts just due to some poorly engineered mechanics.

You will want to play for nostalgia, but it will let you down. There are way better dungeon crawler board games out now. Decent and Gloomhaven for starters
