I got the cloud x3 in May from a deal. They are okay but not my favorite. Light but no cushion really and not a lot of spring. Another pair I got around Christmas, can't remember the type I like more.. cushion and let's the foot roll forward
I do ~10-30miles a week, early 40s so maybe that's why I'm a fan of the softer impact on my knees and lower back with old age.
Preface: I'm a beginning runner and running around the neighborhood for health purposes and tracking vo2max on an Apple Watch. I used to be lifter and now more of a calithetics kind of person. Probably considered fat even at 5'7 165lbs and nearing 40 years old.
Tried these on and felt ok. If I had another pair I'd buy it'd be the ASICS Gel Nimbus 26s for cushion. Sure it isn't built for speed, but not many of us are in a competition/crossfit/marathon. If someone is more on the heavy side and not competing, the basic average Joe coming in heavier as a weight lifter or want fat to lose, I'd go with the Gel Nimbus. Just my 2 cents. I ended up buying ASICS Novafoam 4s, but if I could return I'd just go with the above mentioned instead. Rather have comfortable feet and joints than "can go fast and slow." Nimbus would probably last longer with the more rubber on bottom and great for longer/slower runs, zone 2 work. You'll naturally get faster by doing more of this type of run than the sprints/tempo stuff.

Is they hype real on these shoes?

I really like the cloud surfer. I have an insole for my feet and they are one of the most comfortable shoes I have worn. The others weren't so soft and did feel any different than other brands

For the Cloudsurfer, On has taken off the # to signify what generation it is which is some weak sauce imo. The one being sold is the 6. The current one is the 7. Reviews say the foam is significantly softer in the 7s. Most of the rave reviews are for the 7. You can tell by the colorways. The 6s have gone on sale for this price at a lot of vendors in the last few months. Just putting this out there so someone doesn't order it expecting the current model.

Really? I could have sworn that black/cobalt was a 6. Dang, I've been itching to give it a try...
I like your throwback username btw. Baby Jordan!
Yes, you can tell by soles. The 6 were also super ugly. I have the black /cobalt ones and picked them up from rei. They are on sale there as well.
I'm using a dr scholls plantar facitis insert and they are super comfy. May be my face shoes ever. I didn't really love the others but these felt different.
I have the cloud x3 recently at this deal I would've got another pair in the ivory/black. But out of my size. It's hard to maintain a clean white shoes. I use it for leg days at the gym. Pretty stable to do squats with. I would roll forward often with running shoes when I do squats. I use the cloud nova for running.
Personal anecdote: I run approx. 10-mi cumulatively every week and owned (i.e. used to) a pair of On running shoes. The circular voids on the bottom of the sole too easily picked up pebbles and mud and I found myself having to pick out the debris with a screwdriver after every run. On's are very annoying to own although the running experience was decent.

Newer models fixed that. On seem more for lifestyle than hardcore running though.

They're good shoes overall, but I would never pay full price for them. For running tech I would probably use Saucony, Brooks, Asics or Hoka.

I have the original Cloud X, had it since 2020, good shoes for gym and everyday wear.
