I logged into Carl's Jr My Rewards and have an offer for a free onion rings. If you have the deal in your "offers" section just add an onion rings and hit redeem for the deal, no other purchase required. I'm not sure if it's for all members or new members, but this is an amazing deal because Carl's Jr. is notoriously expensive with minimal offers such as this.

Started in LA and merged like 40 years ago

Yes, free no purchase required is rare for most chains. But at least where I live there are always coupons for Carl's. The 2 for 1 Burgers coupon deals are no more, but there are some decent discounts. If not, we would never go there.
