It's probably because that type of acne you have is bacterial (pustules/papules) versus just clogged pores (whiteheads/blackheads). I recommend trying a benzoyl peroxide wash instead because that will actually kill the acne bacteria. A lot of people like the PanOxyl 4% creamy daily wash. And make sure you moisturize after so your skin doesn't overproduce oil...Cetaphil and Cerave are good brands.

If you like the salicylic acid face wash, and want an even cheaper alternative, try this:

It's 2% like most others, but of course it's $1.25. I noticed my local Dollar Trees selling out of this about 2 years ago, so bought a bunch, as I use it often. Now they've brought it back but with different labelling/brand.
