I don't know why Brita insisted on getting rid of the flap on the front of the water jug. Now if I have these things on a counter dust, flies, mosquitos, splashes from the sink, whatever can get directly into the clean water section. The pre-filter water has better protection, ironically.
Apparently you've had a different experience than me with that front spout flap. In my experience, they were often causing problems (including icing up and "sticking" when pitcher was stored on top shelf in back of fridge). YMMV I guess, but I was kinda happy to not have to deal with the Brita front flap issues any longer.
Might be why this model was much cheaper ($8.47) at WM in April.

I wonder why they didn't fix the flap rather than pretend it wasn't needed? Maybe their design team couldn't figure it out.

I took a piece of sandpaper to mine when I bought it and it's fine ever since.

Well, to each their own if you prefer the flap - but I make iced tea and store it in a large Libbey glass carafe where the top is completely open. So, that small area being open on the Brita pitcher doesn't really bother me. On the other hand, when that little flap *does* work correctly, it helps to direct the flow of water - so I do understand why people might prefer that design.

Thanks for bringing attention to this, I now wonder if it easily absorbs the odor of the refrigerator like if someone doesn't seal a bag or chopped onions properly.

10 cent cheaper than Amazon prime day. Also mine came warped. The water storage top part did not fit the top cover. Like someone squeezed it and it won't contain water if you try to pour while full.

Is this the sensor where the lid needs to stay open for 10 seconds for it to record that I refilled it? My sink will fill in a shorter period of time and then not record that it was refilled if I don't intentiojally wait and leave it open, which is annoying.

If you double filter and have a door dispenser for water, check the clearance. This pitcher is too tall, so i can't just wedge it like the shorter round one I have. Bought it and just gave it to mother in law who has sink filter.

Did they get rid of the front flap on all their jugs? I was going to replace mine but saw the new ones at Costco didn't have the flap, so I ended up keeping my old one.
