$479 regular price?
Does anyone believe that?
Has anyone ever actually paid that?
Barring any kind of major breakthrough in sound technology that this speaker can claim is all its own, $80 is about all anyone should expect to pay for it. HK should be ashamed of themselves for trying to trick people by listing some fictitious BS list price.

Honestly, not to be too harsh here or anything, but that was on you.

I've owned dozens and dozens of HK Onyx Studio speakers. They are pretty simple to open up and replace the battery on for $15-$20. This is widely known and has been for years. They are notorious for being some of the best, most popular Bluetooth speakers on the market (some iterations better than others). There are a plethora of online forums or how-to videos around that show you exactly how to take the front of the speaker off and change out the battery for the Studio 4 (one of the most popular versions of the series).

In all of my dozens of times I've done this with cheaply purchased secondhand units, I've only ever come across one unit that has an issue that I could not solve with a new battery. That unit would power up, connect, play for about 10 seconds and turn itself off every time.

Occasionally, battery powered Bluetooth speakers simply get 'stuck' and fail to respond to any power cycling attempts. Opening up the unit, unplugging the battery from the main board and plugging it back in will force a manual restart of the unit that can help resolve the issue. However, due to the nature of these speakers being more of a premium indoor-use item that only push the full 60W of power they are capable of when they are plugged in (they aren't as loud due to pulling less on battery power), many people tend to make the mistake of leaving their speakers plugged in all the time. This actually kills the battery over time since it is in a constant state of being fully charged (not good for lithium ion batteries). Counter to that, some people may forget to charge their speakers and leave them on empty for long periods of time (also not good for lithium ion batteries). Sometimes, lithium ion batteries just go bad.

The popularity of these speakers coupled with the nature of how many people end up using them has created a battery-issue that has many options available for rectification of these developments. Many of the battery kits available on Amazon even come with the screwdriver you need to open the front of the speaker and access the battery.

It's a shame that you threw it away but, honestly, if you had dug into the problem online a little, you probably would have been able to salvage the speaker and still be enjoying it today.

I bought the HK Onyx 4 in 2020 for $99. It worked good but then 3 years after it just stopped charging. Just died all of the sudden. Got a new charger and it wasn't the charger either. Contacted the company but got zero help. So it went into the trash. The MSRP is trash. It's always been around $100 for the last 6-7 years. I wouldn't buy this brand again.
