I replaced the polyfill with memory foam cushions and shredded memory foam pillows which did make it a fantastic couch for lying down (basically a bed now), but cost me an additional $160. I'm still replacing the couch as I want to sit up much of the time, especially when gaming, and the low back sucks for that, even when the memory foam pillows are braced against it. I would not buy this.
This couch is definitely made for lounging. Mine is set up in a 3x3 square pit couch type of arrangement. I definitely struggle a bit to get up and off the couch. Sometimes I roll off. When you get on the couch and get comfortable you just tend to stay in that position. It is very relaxing. There are 6 throw pillows plus all the back cushions. With my setup I am probably going to store half the back cushions and maybe a few throw pillows because I don't really use the back cushions and they take up a lot of space physically and visually.
I bought some nice spring loaded wood couch arm wood tables from amazon for $15 each and they work great to put your remotes or food, drinks, etc on the arms.
Even with the low back I think it is possible to sit up with the right combination of back cushions and pillows
One thing I was looking for in a couch, and I have been looking for a few years on and off, is having seat cushions and ottoman cushion and back cushions to have a zipper cover and having access to the fill. That way if there is a breakdown in material I can either add or replace material. My last couch had everything sewn shut. I couldn't move any cushions or replace broken down foam. Also all the cushions are reversible and the seat cushions can rotate. The exception is the ottoman cushion that has a couple strips of velcro underneath but it still has a zipper cover
My old couch sectional would move all over the place even being connected together. I hated it. On my carpet these things do not move.
There were reports that the off gassing bothered some people. I can attest to that. I am pretty sensitive to smells but by no means am I somebody that is concerned about off gassing from cleaners, and air fresheners and such. I wasnt feeling well when this couch was delivered and I was coughing and this couch off gassing made it worse for me. The smell was enough that I left a couple exhaust fans on full time and opened more windows when I was home for a few days. After a few days it was fine and i don't notice it now.
As soon as it was delivered I was inspecting it. I noticed a snagged white thread coming through a cushion. It was very noticeable. Like a run in nylons thing. I had the delivery guy take pics and so did I. I contacted costco soon after and they offered to replace the entire couch or credit me $215. I took the credit and I will deal with the issue myself. I guess I only really need to the couch to last about 5 or so years until retirement and I sell everything and move to Mexico.
