Already paid for annual subscription plus it's a hassle to replace/re-mount my outdoor cameras…I have 5-6 ring cameras sound the house. It's a pain to switch.

I've had the Ring Alarm since the very beginning and also grandfathered @$100 a year, but that will end for everybody next year and will double in price in 2025.

I'm seriously considering other brands that actually offer longer recording times and/or SD card support. The 2-minute recording max for Ring is woefully INSUFFICIENT and pretty ridiculous if you ask me. You can miss out on VERY critical security footage with such a short recording limit.

And also higher resolution cameras should at least be offered. Low frame-rate 1080p is just not good enough in 2024 imo.

what are the other comparable plans for $100/year that will call the police for you?

If I had known Ring had a subscription for video playback. I would never had bought one.

How are you unable to tell the difference between 1080 and 2k and up? What does fbi stake out have to do with sticking with ring?

I am in the grandfathered plan of $100/year, I don't think I saw any communication from Ring regarding price increase. Did you get notified about it (yes, I searched web and everyone talking about price increase for grandfathered plans in 2025; but I am not able to find any communication from Ring)

Yes, I received an official email about it from Ring a couple of years ago (and not to mention it's all over the internet). If you want definitive information, just contact Ring directly. They will verify the price increase. It will be effective for any renewals starting next year.

Thank You, I will check with them, also I was only searching for emails in the last couple of months, now I will go back and search previous years to see if I got any emails from them regarding this.

I went back to review my emails and I think I got my first notification in 2021 but if you look at the bottom of each renewal email - It should mention that you'll continue to have your "1st Gen" until after 2025 and then it will be upgraded to their current offering

Oh, you have to buy both. I think that use of "and" is a bit ambiguous.

That's how much we used to paid ADT for 2 months of service. $100 is 12 months of security monitoring and for me is 10 cameras of clouds service. Plus lifetime replacement. They also replace the unit with the latest model. It is truly a great deal especially you want monitoring service.
How do you know if your grandfathered in. And how do you know if you have the lifetime replacement feature?

For people who still use ring. Any reason why you still stick with ring, considering they're 1080p when other brand offer 2k and up?
I'm grandfathered in. But will continue even at $200/yr. That price is still insanely good for monitoring and the warranty. ADT wants that for just a couple of months.

Is there a better/cheaper option? I pay $100 a year for the subscription. The app is super easy to use. I have quite a few cameras set up and they are all easy to use.

I had different brand years ago and the sd cards and app was a pain to use. Once I saw a friend with Ring and how easy it was to use I switched. I do wish the outdoor cameras were cheaper though.

I am currently looking for 2 or 3 cameras to have outside for better coverage of driveway and back yard.

Thank you very much, unfortunately by mistake I nuked all my old emails; will reach out to Ring. In any case I might still continue with them because it is the only security camera product that my wife approves because of ease of use.

Here's my take on why I'm still using Ring vs competitors (Simplisafe, Abode as examples.)
Price isn't the issue to me ; it's ease of use, reliability, and POE. Ring however is still competitive in pricing too.

Wi-Fi is simply not secure or reliable. It's not an option if you actually want cameras that will record in an incident. Anyone can go to Amazon, buy a sub $10 WiFi jammer https://www.amazon.com/ESP-01S-Pr...B07V54DWXH and kill your WiFi cameras right then and there. I only really looked into this after a co-worker was robbed, and both his and his neighbor's cameras didn't record a thing thanks to the jammer above.

As far as I'm aware, Ring is the only 24/7 alarm response company with a competitive price, and simple UI that offers POE cameras. The POE cameras are not cheap, but thanks to being wired they always load instantly, and the picture quality never suffers. Yeah it sucks to run the cables, but once you buy a nice POE switch and run those cables, you can swap cameras easily and never have to think twice about their connection.

I will ditch Ring if another competitor comes along with POE cameras, a cheaper price, and Apple Home support, but I don't see any options at this time. I've had Ring since 2018 between two different houses and haven't had a single issue with any aspects of the system - it just works reliably. I haven't even had to do any Warranty replacements either. I currently push my Ring system into HomeKit with HomeAssistant and can control the Alarm that way too.
Oh, and to address another poster - POE cameras still record in 2 minute chunks, but do not typically cooldown between motions that I've noticed, so you don't miss anything beyond 2 minutes, it just starts another block of recording.

If you don't need an alarm system, I reccomend Reolink POE cameras with an NVR instead. Do not rely on WiFi for recording.
