I've been using a 34" QHD ultrawide for 8 years now and I can't go smaller. I sit about 26" away from the monitor.

For comparison, a 34" ultrawide monitor is the same height as a 27" 16:9 monitor except it is wider by 8".

Can I get some advice? My current 15.6" laptop sits on a standing desk and rests about 1' - 1.5' from my face. It seems QHD 27" and 34" sizes are very popular. Looking at a measuring tape stretched out to 27" even seems huge to me... maybe it would be great to play games so large? Which would be best for me? Maybe smaller?

QHD 27" is the sweet spot.

This one or the 165hz one for $299? Went with that one but barely game anymore and debating this one instead. Monitors mostly for video editing.

I'm trying to decide the same thing. If you barely game I'd prob save the 50 depending on which games you play. I'm just using a 3060ti at the moment and I don't push much more than 100fps anyway so what's the point?

That's kind of my thought too but I ended up sticking with the 165hz one because the brightness looked a little better and I couldn't find a lot of reviews about the $250 one.

I just want to comment that a good VA panel will be superior than most IPS panels. So, VA shouldn't really be a dealbreaker as long as it is a good VA panel. I hope you aren't mixing up the older TN panels with VA, as that I would agree with.

100 Hz is not great, I agree. I personally prefer the 120 hz-144hz.

But the dpi loss at 34" is akin to 27" at 1080p...

I have this monitor. Yes it's only 100hz but I don't game on it and it has great height and angle adjustability, is so much better than a 32, and I would buy it again in a heartbeat. It's also built very solidly. I moved it halfway across the country without issue.

Not sure if you can get a better monitor for this price, but I didn't feel inclined to spend more time searching.

95% of people can't tell the difference between 100hz and anything above that in blind studies.

The jump between 60, 65 and 100 is very noticeable however.

If both are running at QHD (3440x1440 vs 2560x1440), they should be similar. No reason there would be any dpi loss, especially as much as you're saying.
