actual question. who is buying the mbp m3 with 8GB of ram. the only way i see that making sense if apple bumped the airs to around $599 for base.. and then had these fake mbp's at around $899 base m3 8/512. at 1500~.. it makes absolutely no sense.. when you can buy the m3pro that has two fans, 2GB more ram, more mem bandwidth, for $100~ more when on sale. ya u lose the 512GB of ssd, but w/e. is it just the ignorant who don't know better?

does apple imply that PRO users only need 8GB of ram? like 99.99% of all users? (and gutted mem bandwidth)

With the new Apple intelligence release in the next MacOS, 8GB will never be enough to run any decent AI model on local machine. Most current models require 8GB just to load the model, and the ones that require 4GB are not good enough. If running local AI, especially on your personal/professional documents and files, is a priority, I'd stay away from 8GB. I bought a refurb M1Pro last month and it outperforms the M3 non pro on several benchmarks.

I feel the air is plenty for most folks including me for web usage or talk to anything that runs in a box. literally sometimes all I need is a large screen and all day battery and I connect over ssh for any intensive tasks.
8gb is a just a gateway drug to apple world.

This is Apple testing the market. First avail all the flavors and then concentrate on the one's that sell the most.
This is still the starting age for ARM Desktops & Laptops,
Also, they would not be production larger quantities of lesser selling variants.

For web browsing I prefer Chromebook for 200$. But need a performance laptop of 16 gb. But out of stock here 😔

I would lean towards older mbp with may be m1 or m2 and 16gig for much less money over the one with 8GB any day.

HDMI port. I usually walk out the house without a bag and therefore no dongle. Only need the cheapest model for light duty task but HDMI is a must. Air's don't have it or the SD card slot.

SDcard slot is good for keeping mp3, photos or some movies as speed of access is not relevant. Can double the storage quite cheaply

I'm a Mac user here, and some Apple products are just pure, silly, landfilled products. CPU power is more than enough, but RAM and storage will make a difference in how long the product will serve you. I would not buy an opened box with 8gig of RAM for $1410. 8 Gig of RAM has no business in a Pro line. With Macbook, get the highest end or get the Air. I have the M1 with 32gig, and it works great. I cannot imagine working on an 8gig.

Battery life and Mac m1 air base is what I'm using. It's a full blown computer and I don't use Chrome. I use Firefox and Chromebook implementation of Firefox is worse for my use
