I would dissuade anyone from buying one that doesn't have an articulating head as the battery and possibly the protruding motor will get in the way when you need to file/sand something flat against a wall/structure.

This is for detail work, if you want to sand a flat surface other tools are better for the job not this. Yes I have this, it's one of the most useful things I have and use it several times a week. Again, for things other than detail sanding I use orbital sander and a belt sander for larger work areas. I guess I've never had an articulating detail sander before so maybe I just don't know how more useful it is, but this one is great for my uses.

Oh yeah, I use this for more than just wood stuff. I use this to grind metal things, smooth metal things. Other people use this to dress up or clean up welds and weld slag. Lots of uses for this thing, worth every dollar.

No one is saying to use this in place of a random orbital or large belt sander on flat surfaces. I'm referring to detail work which an articulating head is much better suited in tighter places. This sander is limited by the entire tool's clearance to get the file flat in many use cases. Not sure what point you're trying to make about it being able to sharpen things. You can do the same thing with an articulating model.

I looked over my post and I couldn't find the word "sharpen" in my post at all. But the point I was trying to make without using the word sharpen, was that the usefulness of this goes beyond just wood or wood related uses. My post was more about sharing my experience about the level of usefulness this has in my uses despite not being articulated.

It will cut down your time alright by cutting off all your teeth leaving you with nothing ever to floss,

Agreed. The lack of an articulating head really cuts down on this tool's utility.
I use Bauer's corded bandfile to help me with my welding hobby. It would be worthless to me if the head position wasn't adjustable, because I wouldn't be able to reach a lot of the areas that I want to grind/sand.

Not a hackable kit and reselling the batteries makes the sander $89 for the usual going rates on reselling. Not a deal in my book.
