These are perfectly serviceable for backyard movie nights and other not so serious uses. The fact that it's less intricate than a videophile grade projector means you can toy around with it a lot more and lend it out to friends.
I had one clamped to a headboard to put a 6 foot image on the ceiling while bedridden, for instance. The picture was plenty bright and did the job.
The thing barely pulls 2A and has an auto shutoff feature, so I'm not sure where you get the idea that it's going to "burn your house down".
Do you unplug your router at night?
Because that has just as much likelihood of starting a fire left unattended as this does while you're watching it.
Here are my thoughts on it:
It's probably one of the best projectors you can get for less than $100.
Don't plan on using during the day unless you can make the room really dark.
Plug a Chromecast, Firestick, Roku, Blu-ray player into the hdmi port and use that device's features.
Connect to a Bluetooth speaker that sits in the front of the room as the built-in speaker isn't great and would make sound come from behind you.
Try to get the projector as level as possible with the center of the projection as too much keystone adjustment causes either the top or bottom to be out of focus.
Don't expect it to be as good as your $200 TV! It will be bigger, not better. Decent projectors cost way more than TVs.
It will overheat if you let it run for several hours in one go. Good enough for a movie, not for binging a show all night.
For me this is just a fun item to have, not a replacement for the main TV.
This is a bedroom setup with this projector.
