totally different, Gigabit vs 2.5gb
Burying the lede here... usb>eth are a dime-a-dozen all over.

The relevant feature here is 2.5 gbps -- those adapters are typically in the $20-30 range.
Two point five gigabit which is two point five times faster than one gigabit. That's why it's a deal.

Does anyone know if this can be used to transfer large files over a LAN from a cell phone to a computer?

I know there's probably a bunch of other ways to get it done, but just curious if Android phones specifically can use something like this to hard wire into a LAN. Thanks
Yes, it can.

none of the 2.5G version are intel NIC,
which kind of important if you thinking about loading ESXI
but should be find if you do proxmox or other hypervisor
You have to use ESXi Fling for USB 2.5gb NICs.... I have 4 on a NUC all running at 2.5gb. Mine ar2 the Anker 2.5gb USB adapters... not sure if this would work or not.

And you will forever be stuck at 6.x
The esxi customizer isn't available for higher version

Tis true, I clicked because its kinda neat. But also very limited use in scope almost nobody has a switch that supports 2.5gbps and in almost no situations is 2.5gbps going to be any real advantage over 1gbps except massive file transfers and in that case your still much better with an external SSD or something.

I have 10gb in my home via fiber, and recently got a multi-gig switch to facilittate the 10gb RJ45 access point backhauls I have so I can support 2.5 and 5gb RJ45 Ethernet.

Since I can use this and I am a tech enthuisiast I clicked becaue it peeked my interest.
But yeah just fair warning that for most people this is not likely usefull.

There is also the question on if its universal plug and play for Linux, Steam Deck Etc.

Quoting one of the first reviews.

I think universal compatibility and plug and play trumps speed for these type of adapters, in some cases like PXE booting it may not work, etc.

Highlighting that this is USB-C and not USB-A.
In case you're like me and your eyes skipped that part until the 4th time you read it...

Was my exact thought, until someone pointed out the speed.

Though, I think gigabit is faster than most of us need 99% of the time. Heck, many areas of the country don't even have gigabit internet service. Point being, I'd stil buy the hub.😄
If you've ever had to xfer 10 to 20 TB over a 1 gbps LAN you'd think different.

That's incorrect... I'm on the latest version of 8.x. You can get the Fling drivers without the customizer. Check out William Lams blog posts on these.

One of the things this can do which makes it valuable irrespective of your internet speed is for Sony's Remote Play. If you have an iPhone 15 Pro (the only iPhone that supports 2.5Gbit yet), or recent iPad Pros then you can attach this to them, then Ethernet straight to your router with a 2.5Gbit port, and another Ethernet (1Gbit) to your PS5. This creates a completely hardwired Remote Play experience which will allow you to max Remote Play settings currently available in the app and results in no quality drops, no framerate drops, and full 1080p constantly.

Granted, you have to string an Ethernet cable to you, but you could technically play across your house with 100% quality and it will look and play far better than Sony's official PlayStation Portal because presently it is highly limited in the bit rate it can accept.

The PS5 Pro is launching this November probably. It's incredibly likely it will at least support WiFi 6E for the 6Ghz band, and hopefully have a 2.5Gbit Ethernet port over the current 1Gbit. If this happens, then hopefully Sony will update the Remote Play apps to go up to 4K resolution with HDR, and also 120Hz, because then you could have a fully 2.5Gbit connection all the way through.

Yeah, I'd agree. What percentage of users do you think that applies to?

I doubt Sabrent makes anything themselves, just rebadges everything. You can find these for for about $6 shipped on the Chinese websites. I've not run any network speed tests on the ones I bought but Windows is reporting a 2.5 Gb connection under the network settings.

As mentioned before, heat may be an issue for this adapter. I added a thermal pad to a similar 2.5g adapter using a Realtek chipset and it seems to help.
