I would call them RPG-Lite, set in the South Park Universe. This might be underselling though. Stick of Truth especially is more like South Park, only you control the characters.

It is, imo, a REALLY good example of bringing the source tv show into a game environment.

I bought these on Xbox bc I love south park. They were pretty boring. I tried both for about 30 mins and I just couldn't see myself playing them again.

Both of these are amazing games. Turn based combat, hilarious story lines and jokes. I can't recommend both enough. I've gotten the platinum on each and done multiple playthroughs even after that. It's like playing and rewatching episodes.

SoT is more like older South Park story and jokes. More old school characters and a fantasy style story like LotR.

FBW is more like newer South Park episodes, like a Marvel action story with the newer characters, and they took the jokes a lot further. Added movement and directional attacks to the combat.

Seriously, if you haven't played them, this is a steal.

Been waiting for these to go on sale on PC. I played Stick of Truth on Xbox and loved it. I haven't even really watched South Park in years but still really enjoyed the game.

edit: Looks like the sale ends at noon today. If you're interested, better jump on it

edit edit: looks like the sale is through Aug 5th. Not sure why I thought it ended today… ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'm about 13 hours into my first playthrough of Stick of Truth right now. I've laughed out loud multiple times and I am enjoying the world. The mechanics are a little RPG lite, I agree, similar to the Mario & Luigi Series with precise button presses to attack and block.

I don't mind turn-based but I do agree this one could be quicker. Sometimes the battles take like 10 min lol

stick of truth is a must-buy for any south park fan. It introduces you to every character on the show from the first 15 seasons or so and combat is simple yet thought provoking. I think of it was a playable-movie, its something you play with your significant other, even if they dont like video games as long as they enjoy south park they'll love the game.

fractured but-whole i didnt like as much. maybe because i played them back to back, but fractured but whole has a very complicated combat system in comparison.

This style of gameplay wasn't for me but The Fractured but Whole is still my all time favorite title.
