It appears Sony does not warranty Open Box TVs: https://www.sony.com/electronics/...12289M.pdf

(I'd be interested in hearing others' interpretation of this)

Buy the geek squad warranty. It's based on the selling price of the TV. Last time I got a heavily discounted tv (1099 MSRP, paid $547), the 5 year warranty was like $199 I think. It covers burn in and everything for the full 5 years, including remote replacements. The only thing not covered is accidental damage. Both of my OLEDs are BB open box models, zero issues thus far.

If missing parts, you can complain to cs and possibly get a further reduction in price

I would be all over this in a heartbeat, but none are available within 250 miles of me
This isn't bad advice. I'm just not convinced Best Buy will be around for that long

I would never buy a 'fair' condition TV or monitor from BB
Even 'Good' I wouldn't touch - I tried it recently with a Samsung Galaxy G8 OLED and it was missing the stand, the VESA mount adapter and the screws. Research led me to many other people who've had similar problems with essential parts missing even on 'good' condition that are not supposed to be missing anything beyond non-essential parts and accessories.
I *might* try 'excellent' but that's as low as I'd go with monitors/TVs from BB
I bought an lg c3 in excellent condition from bb. I was expecting it to come with everything, but instead it was bubbled wrapped, and was missing the stand.

Took a bit but BB got me the stand. The price was really good so I decided to go with it instead of NiB.

The whole experience left me feeling a little better than meh.

These are possibly two year old TVs and I would be afraid these are the display at BB with a gazillion hours on them being on all the time.
Depends on your store and also your luck. I bought LG - 77" Class C9 Series OLED , display in 2020 , still going strong. Some people had 6000-8000 run time hours. Mine was around 2-3k if i remember correctly.

You can check the hours and return it or get a geek squad warranty ?

LG c2 42" here. Text at 4k looks perfect, what are you talking about?
OLED is fine. QD-OLED looks terrible for text.

FYI - looks like this does not support 1440p at all, and will try to upscale to 4k if that's a factor to you.
You can use custom resolution utility to create a custom resolution. It can do 3840x1440/1600 just fine.

They've been around since forever. I'm 49 and I worked at Best Buy when I was like 19 years old.. 30 years ago. They may close some stores. But they aren't going away.

Yea, people need to understand that the Hardware/tech industry needs visibility to attract consumers with extra cash to spare, you cant see TV models difference by watching YouTube video comparison

You can access the service menu with the new remotes. Be careful in there.

Open box items at BB are hit or miss. I bought an excellent rated vizio elevate soundbar. It looked great, audio test sounded great, but it wouldn't produce sound.

Also bought a fair rated 55 sony oled. It was missing the stand and had a slight scratch at the base, but the tv has been incredible.

their grades are all over, during Rog ally sale my first one was excellent it came in a generic laptop box heavily scratched and the plastic was dented from the previous owner, returned it and bought fair, came mint in the original box with accessories unopened and warranty started 5 days before purchasing it

For many of these Sony TVs you can still use an old school IR remote including the cheap common universal remotes you have laying around. Sony has not changed the IR codes in decades. This is useful for doing the service menu check to see how many hours the screen has been powered on before paying for the open box item. Many of us already have an old universal remote in a drawer somewhere. Can be real handy when staff can't or won't find a Sony remote to test with for whatever reason.

I returned one a month or two ago to a best buy with no issues at all other than my own issue where tvs hurt my head. Someone told me it would possibly be unethical to buy the same one back at a discounted price... so I resisted doing it. And now sadly finally someone bought it! I could have had that open box excellent back for $625 and now instead I am stuck unsure what to do for a 42. I may have to go samsung as lg seems to always hurt my head too. I only want this small one for occasional gaming and tv shows.

I have a samsung curved oled from many years ago when they made one lone model of oled. Last year I tried a s90c. I sued that remote from the old oled and successfully got into the service menu. So apparently samsung still leaves things the same also.
