From elsewhere:

At the expense of insulting egos and down votes. It's simple. Harbor freight designed a system to walk their customers up a what's called a price ladder. First, they got you in the store with free tools. You didn't care much , might even joined in the chorus of mocking the cheap Chinese tools. It's free, but won't be as good as made in America tools. They got you in the store so much, you replaced a few tools with them, as they have a great life time Warranty. Now, harbor freight comes out with this professional grade tool brand icon. It's very competitive to American made tools, even the same exact tool. So, now it turns into a bit of a club. You're kinda stupid if you don't replace all your tools, or fill your new box with icon. You're saving so much money in comparison to snap on. Therefore , people want to show they joined the icon club, and do so with one of the least expensive icon tools. Hence the "meme tool." what I'm saying ain't something negative, just a good business plan, and an entire campaign that I'd argue isn't 100 percent organic and entire "meme tool" itself is, marketing.

The meme tool nickname is one part a jab at the "look at the [least expensive and useful] pro tool I carry in my bag" bandwagon and one part because Reddit made it so popular that HF locations started selling out of it, as a meme.

You can search "meme tool" on their site and it brings you right to time product page. HF is in on the joke.

It's probably not a tool you need but it is cheaper than a Wera Toolcheck which makes it a popular gadget. You've got your basic ratcheting and screwdriving needs covered by proper tools at home. A Leatherman is arguably a more versatile tool for everyday carry. You can get a full size, fully stocked tool kit for your trunk for about the same price.

Meme tool will be on sale for $25 during August parking lot sale, btw. Presumably to get rid of some inventory before releasing new version with sockets.

Edit: should have read thread first lol. Saw that's already been mentioned...

I was hoping that'd be out already, as the kit as-is isn't quite there imo. But then I got a jobsmart 83 piece kit from tractor supply for $20. 27 sae/metric sockets, ok-ish 3/8 ratchet, 3" extension, 1/4 socket adapter, driver handle, 30 1/4 bits, and those useless Allen keys that every cheap set comes with. I work a desk job but we're constantly tinkering with new furniture/fixtures. I wasn't going to strip "decent" tools from my home or truck tool sets to get a small kit in the office, so that helped along with the extraneous hand tool dupes one ends up with over the years.

Everyone is saying it's going to be in the 40% off, but that parking lot flyer posted could be region specific. It also says ICON ratchets, but isn't this a set with a ratchet? I mean, if that's the case, then they are doing 40% off all their mechanic kits that come with a ratchet? I think it's going to be excluded once it rolls around.

Just confirmed that this works with the Hercules free tool with battery and charger deal. The battery and charger is $99.99 so you have to buy a filler item (at the registers they have the .79 pen knife...) and the tool of your choice is free, then get $25.00 off the total. Just picked up the Hercules cordless grease gun, 5amp battery and charger and pen knife for $75.78 before taxes.

The "meme tool" is going on sale because they announced they are releasing a new one with sockets.

So does this mean If i buy like 5 items, that total over $100, I get $25 off the entire checkout price? Or is it only valid on 1 item over $100? Sorry, new to all this HF stuff.
I don't know why you're getting downvoted for this. I just went up there and tried to use it on a combination of items that equaled $100 and the cashier wouldn't let me use it. She said that it had to be a single item over $100.

Edit: Although, she could have been and probably was just wrong.

Edit 2: Called back up there. Cashier was indeed wrong...

Your cashier was wrong. It does not have to be a single item, the total before taxes jsut has to be equal/over 100. I just used it twice at my store. Bought the Hercules grease gun, battery and charger plus a filler item to get over 100. Then went back in and bought the Hercules cordless saw and battery and charger with filler item. Both times the register allowed it to work.

Sorry, but on bright side the coupon is good today and TOMORROW. Suxs to have to make a second trip but if you want something its worth it. Maybe talk to manager to get a "cashier was a dumbass" discount.
