So what's the difference between these two?:

Walmart:
Valvoline Maxlife Dex/Merc Atuo Transmission Fluid

https://slickdeals.net/f/17588520-amazon-valvoline-multi-vehicle-atf-full-synthetic-automatic-transmission-fluid-1-ga-case-of-3-51-reg-84-free-shipping?src=SiteSearch

Amazon:
Valvoline Multi-Vehicle (ATF) Full Synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluid

https://slickdeals.net/f/17588520-amazon-valvoline-multi-vehicle-atf-full-synthetic-automatic-transmission-fluid-1-ga-case-of-3-51-reg-84-free-shipping?src=SiteSearch

I usually get the one from Amazon for VW and BMW.

Dex/merc is going to be found in older vehicles and then they came out with ATF fluid for the next generation…. Some have used the ATF where it called for Dex/merc and were fine. Not sure if I would do the opposite. Just don't let anyone talk you into a transmission flush. Dropping a pan and replacing the filter and replacing fluid drained is usually best. But if your over 100k miles don't do anything anymore….you have built up debris helping your trans with friction

Good advice! Doing an old fashion change by changing fluid several times in a short period vs the mechanical flush.

1. they are the same part #773775. Ergo the same thing from both vendors.

2. Here are some of the part replace numbers on the valvoline website:
https://shop.valvolineglobal.com/...sion-fluid. See if those numbers match your BMW or VW atf numbers.

Hope this helps.

I hadn't noticed the same part number; I'm pulling the trigger on this Walmart deal.

Be sure and inspect your packages. I have had few bad experiences with amazon but I had lost 4 of 6 orders of this 3 pk of ATF. Amazon now puts the packages within another box. Hope you have better luck with Walmart.

YMMV, but in my area Walmart delivery has rapidly evolved from multiple employees bringing multiple grocery bags of dented cans (ultimately forming a "12-pack") out of their bumpin' Dodge Chargers that they foolishly try to reverse uphill, to a more reliable service than USPS (marks packages as "delivered" while still sitting in their building), Fedex Ground (leaves packages in mud on side of road), and UPS (drives right past house and takes package to "Access Point" instead of delivering.)

But yeah, Amazon really went all in on the "no packaging" a few years ago. We're getting pretty close to calculating out the price of the 5% cashback and actually deciding if Prime Video is really worth it. I always said that the couple of times I've needed and gotten "Next-Day Delivery" were worth it ... but they pulled the bait-and-switch delivery date with me yesterday when I really needed a car part that isn't in stock locally.

I would argue the "dont change over 100k" advice is somewhat outdated and/or doesn't apply to all vehicles anymore. Newer Fords for example many of them (6F family for one) have torque converter slippage with old fluid and it's easily solved by changing out the fluid even on higher mileage vehicles as long as its caught early. At least for that application what most people don't recommend is any type of power flushing/filling though as you mentioned, just empty and refill 3x to swap out the majority of the fluid and job done. That said I'd buy the manufacturers fluid for a lot of these newer transmissions, trans repairs are too expensive to save a few bucks for me.

As someone who started doing 30k drain/fills 20 years ago, I agree with that 100%, but there are plenty of people that will pull out their pitchforks over it.

I used to do 30K atf changes on my dads '77 chev 3/4 ton: now I maybe run it 1K/yr and do it every 10 years. I wish I had done as you on the 30K for my 2002 Buick lesabre after doing 2 at 80K then I started doing at every 40K after getting p1811 (long shifts) and replaced some spings in the trans. with that kit.
