It's not a new property. Over 5K reviews on google, so it's clear this property was renovated and they're passing it off as a "grand opening"
https://maps.app.urlhasbeenblocke...ohXWpUTBYA

A review from 3 years ago spells it out... they renovated the property, and did it while guests were staying.

It's pretty important to note that the hotel is having renovations done currently. The lobby is gorgeous but the rooms are very outdated. The employees at the hotel are great and do the best they can, but the hotel really shouldn't be operating right now. You can hear construction noise all through out the hotel and the pool and hot tub area is having renovations done right next to it that make it unsafe and unpleasant. Definitely not relaxing. Like everyone we work hard so we can go on vacation, so this was disappointing. We wasted our money, we could have easily booked somewhere else had we known there were renovations being done. Feeling very cheated.

It seems from the recent reviews the renovation did work, people generally like it now.

I just redeemed 5 free nights from chase boundless card going there in November, however they charged extra person fee for kids $100 bucks a night, works out to be additional $1000 for two kids
still debating if it's worth it or not

All-inclusive resorts make money on having loads of included shitty food and drinks (regardless of how dressed up they are). $100 in Cancun will pay for a family of 4 to eat all day OUTSIDE the hotel, but if you just want a landlocked cruise then sure spend $100/person/day on "amenities". Marriott/Starwood have many properties in Cancun without the resort fee.
You can't eat an equivalent meal in Cancun for $100 a day for a family of 4. Maybe if you go out in to the boonies. Does Cancun even have a boonies area?

From their dining page:

Complimentary breakfast is not currently served at Marriott Cancun, An All-Inclusive Resort. View the nearby dining options on our dining page for breakfast options nearby the hotel.

What kind of an all-inclusive doesn't have a buffet breakfast option included?!

How is this a deal?
This deal is not so great

I went to see how much it would be and it was $423.20 per night when I booked for September(7 days). I decided to check Google's travel promos against it and for the same 7 days, I can book an All Inclusive at the Grand Royal which is rated just as high as this resort, for only $329 a night. For $356 a night, you can get a Premium Ocean Front Room at the Grand Royal and they don't throw in all those extra junk fees. So I can save basically $500 and get an Ocean View room instead by booking elsewhere. I'm also 100% positive, I can get it down to even cheaper if I took an hour to search. I only did a quick 1 minute Google look and beat the price easily. Or I can take the cheaper room for $329 a night at the Royal and save $660, but my view will just be another building, if that matters to you.

Fine print: book by August 31... and stay by Jan 11 2025. They are giving a paltry 20% discount for off-season price (after school starts). Resorts give deeper discounts than that if booked directly.

AFAIK, Marriott stopped offering complementary breakfast a few years ago. They may still do but they are not included in any packages I buy. Even if they offer, it closes early and only 2 adults are included, so we have to pay for children.

I just posted this comment down the thread: They are giving a paltry 20% discount for off-season price (after school starts). Other resorts give deeper discounts than that if booked directly. Try booking for thanksgiving or the holiday season to see how this offer works :-)

Just stayed at nearby Dreams Sands with just the wife. Trying to plan a trip back with 3 kids. Any recommendations on how to do it with 5 total? Dreams Sands would have to be a 3 person room + 2 person room so would effectively be 250% of the cost of what we just did. Seems a little excessive...
