What is the end use of the wood?
3/4 in plywood to give something I want to hang up some additional support. I already have a M12 fuel hackzall.

Maybe you should just tell the wife to hire a handyman who can do the work because he has the necessary tools 🤔

This and a set of cheap saw horses would probably do the job, I can't speak to the factory blade but you'll want a good blade for sure for that application. A bigger saw would be better but I would have to imagine this could do it.

Great tool for light duty work but blades in this size can be hard to find locally.

I've had a few projects come to a halt waiting for replacement/correct type of blades to be delivered as my local HD/Lowes does not keep this size in stock. Buy a few spares!

My Home Depot stocks 3 different 5-3/8" Diablo blades.

I had the M18 fuel driver, drill and the M18 fuel 5 3/8 metal cutting saw for emt and strut. It was great but I just got robbed. Would it be feasible to replace that with this one? Or can this only cut wood?
the m12 fuel driver and drill are tempting cuz they're cheaper and lighter on my wrist, dunno about this one though.

Bandsaw is a better and cleaner and safer tool for butting emt/strut. There are smaller portaband m12/m18 deal available right now.

Can't do the plastic blade cover, everyone should protest, they should raise the price $3 to cover it being aluminum. There's no reason a Milwaukee saw should ever have it. Floppy and bad for a toolbox beating in the back of your car. I ended up returning and going for the next model up

Perhaps you didn't look closely and see what THE ENTIRE BODY OF THE SAW is made from? 🤔

If budget is limited, the Ryobi stuff is almost always adequate for casual use.

Also, sounds like you're learning which tools are most useful/essential. One approach to that is to buy cheaper versions and replace what breaks or when a tool demonstrates its limitations for your needs.

Your response has to be from a place of assumptions, there's no way you have held and worked with both saws to say that! The plastic blade covers are not part of a structure, they slide on a spring and are extremely FLOPPY. The plastic body is part of a system screwed together and strong as sh*t. Huge difference. If it doesn't bother you go for it, but for me the plastic allowed the blade to slightly bend in my toolbox and that was it for me. That has never happened with a metal blade cover

If your budget is truly that limited, I would stick with corded tools that are cheaper in the short term and long term. Yes, you lose some convenience, but you can get really nice corded tools on a budget. That's how I started years ago and as I migrated to better tools, I just sold or gave away the stuff that was no longer needed.

Ryobi is also a good deal on a budget.

I just don't think budget and M12/M18 have a large overlap on the vin diagram.

May I suggest the m18 6 1/2" saw here with a free XC High output 8.0 mah battery instead, for $30 more. I have this m12 saw and it will cut the 2x4 but it will likely bind and not tolerate anything but a very straight cut.
