The catch:

So it's $25 a month, not a year, and the discount is only on the first month. I'm betting what you see in the pictures is what you get in a year, not in a month. E.g. the webpage says each learning box give you 15 minutes of activity. Doesn't seem worth $3, let alone $25.

Here is a screenshot of what the first box actually comes with.

Our family are highlights subscribers. It's been a completely awful expierience. Highlights said my address was undeliverable (it's not) instead of telling me, they just took my money and suspended my account. I called them and they whoops asked for a new address. Gave them my other address. They the sent the copies to the old address that they said was undeliverable. I tried to cancel my account. Honestly, I still can't figure it out. My son who's 8 seems to not care about highlights at all like I did.

No trickery, but they do clearly state that the first box is $3 and then $25 billed monthly for each new set of 5 books. The poster left it out of the details and main post, but that's not Highlights' fault. It's a great product and has been consistently uniform in structured, entertaining education for the last 30 years at least from what I can remember in every doctor and dentist I've visited in my life. I STILL go and read them and I don't even have kids.

It's in the header area of the email under billing info.
Mine just says "Highlights for Children: New Order # 100" with a 10 digit number. It also repeats it below in the actual email body.

4% cash back? Which card?

Highlights is great. We always look forward to a new magazine, even at full price.

What are you betting? It looks like what you see in the photo is what you get per month.

"New Box Every Month

Get 2 practice books + 1 bonus book per box!"

https://shop.highlights.com/15-mi...hool-c#top

The YouTube video on the above link also shows "15 minutes a day" activity, not "the whole box gives you 15 minutes of activity".

We used to have subscription to Highlights magazine when our kids were small many years ago. The magazine was not bad at all with plenty of activities, as I recall.

just to follow up on my saga, I received another email with confirmation of shipment that contained the real account number. This was different from the one CS gave me. I have two accounts now :/

I was able to cancel renewal as a guest, linking from the original order email, using credentials from shipping email.

Just received one of the welcome kits for one of the reading subscriptions. It included five different I Can Read! Books. At roughly $0.50 each, I feel like that's a pretty good deal.

Just looked and they are the exact books in the photos for the earliest readers subscription.

I have several of these boxes for my toddlers, and each one is as pictured above - you get 12x this amount in a year. Compared to the pricing for Pre-K educational materials from other vendors, this is quite high quality and easily retails for $25.

I previously subscribed for $12/month and found that to be a good value, but cancelled when the promo expired.

$3 to try the materials is a good value, and cancelling is quite easy, although whether the time spent to do so is worth it would be up to the individual to decide.
