7 years of guaranteed security & software updates on Pixel 8a vs who knows? on OnePlus 12r?

Pixel 8a > OnePlus 12r.
I know a person with a Pixel XL which was released in 2016 and they are still using it in 2024. So yes, a Pixel can last 7 years or more.
Ew, no. These are two different worlds. One has guaranteed security updates, and the other is a gamble.

Anyone think Pixel 8s will drop further in price, as the new Pixel 9 launches/black Friday?

+2 this comment. Current own a 12R that I got on sale during prime day. Switched from the pixel 7 and the difference is like night and day. Pixel 7 was really slow and would overheat with 4 light applications open. I game almost daily and the 12R has been amazing for gaming. The AI stuff from pixel is interesting but gimmicky at best only used the AI features one or twice. Camera is the only and minimal downgrade there but I am not huge on pictures so I'll take it any day of the week. Highly recommend the Oneplus 12r.

Would this be a substantial upgrade from my Galaxy s20 FE 5G with Verizon?

I'm not sure which Pixel 7 you have, but the one I'm using right now doesn't overheat. Maybe when it's charging for a little bit like all phones or when you first get it, but not in regular use. I noticed heat management to be one of the biggest improvements coming from the 6a. Maybe you got unlucky with a bad unit?

Though 12R as someone else said is a different type of product. 8a will get 7 years of OS and sec updates, and 12R will have 3 OS and 4 sec updates. The 12R is also in a way larger size class than the 8a. I'm sure it's faster since it has an SD 8 Gen 2, but for most non-power users the Tensor chips are fine. I do a lot of multitasking with 6 apps open and it's really the RAM that holds me back, not the processor.

Still have a pixel 4a5g in use with my family. My wife has a pixel 7 that's been bulletproof. My mom uses a 6a...she is not a power user, but she does take videos and photos of my kids all day...no issues.

Now, as for my 6 pro ...now that thing is hot garbage. After three exchanges, I finally have one which doesn't have unbearable issues with the radio. I have to leave the 5g permanently off for it to not overheat.

camera and software dominates the pixel resume, memory and screen size for the OP. I feel like it's apple vs Samsung all over again with the note 4, lol.

If you got little kids or 'gram Alot, the pixel is the winner... objectively the better point-and-shoot camera. No need for gcam mods...been there, done that, lol.

My experience has been the opposite, wife is careful with it and had the Pixel 5a fail twice 2 and now Pixel 7 signs of issues this week.

My pixel 6 started having issues and I secured a trade in for Pixel 8 which so far has been fine.

Have 3 other friends with Pixel phones and only one had issues. They're pretty hit or miss in my experience.

I don't know why some people take offense in me thinking they won't last 7 years (as if one could really account for EVERY single phone out there) or that realistically most people that use this site won't upgrade before.

Got both. Experience dealing with one plus "customer service" was horrible. Never buying OP phone again.

Interesting. I had the oneplus one, which lasted me until I bought the 6t,and then that lasted until I bought a used oneplus 9 pro 5g. I think they are great phones, much less bloated than Samsung. Cameras are good, but I've always been curious about the pixels for their cameras. The pixels seem to not hold their value long used, and some people I know have oxmplained about battery life. Battery life on my 9 pro 5g (which was used whne purchased) is not superb. I usually have to hit the charge cable once if I'm using it a lot in a day. But oneplus chargers are really fast.

Edit: forgot to also respond to what you said about customer service. I've really never used them. Was it a long phone wait? Couldn't fix your problem? Like I said I've used a lot of their phones, but I've never actually contacted then that I can think of.
