It's a scam & not worth it. Yes it's true this is the most powerful consumer GPU available to the public but when struggling to reach RT 4k 60fps (native resolution) with everything turn on maximum on most recent AAA games, over 1.6k(after tax) doesn't make any sense.

We pc gamers have nobody to blame but ourselves for overpriced gpus.

In addition to plundering all profits from 3rd party vendor's pockets (r.i.p. evga), being repeatedly caught illegally colluding in a gpu duopoly with AMD (including price-fixing the market), enforcing insane NDA agreements, and enacting all sorts of anti-consumer practices, Nvidia is now asserting yet even more control by choking their consumer supply chain in favor of the more profitable enterprise markets. That's not good unless you like "budget" gpus that cost $700 as an entry-level option.

2+ decades of this stuff would give most consumer markets pause, but instead die-hard gamers are so focused on their screens, dopamine hits, influencer overlords, and online communities that the average gamer doesn't realize Nvidia's latest plan is to heavily overlap gpu generations with different price points. Video card price/performance ratios will continue to greatly outpace inflation until people choose something different.

For my part, I haven't upgraded my gpu in years. Instead I adopted a dog for $600, bought a PlayStation 5 and $650 Steam Deck oled (at least Sony and Valve got better silicon deals thanks to their bulk orders), and am shopping for a new motorcycle along with either a new bicycle or e-bike. All of those give me immense enjoyment (especially the dog) and are entertainment/lifestyle choices that show a lot more respect for the average consumer than what AMD and Nvidia have displayed ever since the mining craze corrupted them with massive profits.

These days I'm more interested in seeing if Intel's Battlemage can produce rtx 3080-ish performance for less than $600. It's crazy to be in a world where historically greedy Intel is the potential budget option, but I'd rather give them my money and strengthen a 3rd player in the gpu market versus reward Nvidia's belief that $1000+ gpus should be the new norm.

I have had this card since it launched and have had zero problems with it.

Any idea where one could check the back to school tax exemption for their particular locale?

There are tabs on this page for different states showing which dates apply. Good luck!

One frugal cash back site has 10% back at Lenovo for new users. Also, in Florida, at least, this qualifies for the back-to-school tax exemption for tech purchases under $1500.00. (I looked it up: price after store coupon is what counts, though you'll have to contact Lenovo after the sale to get the tax refunded.) AMEX Offers also has $75 back from $750. Lenovo also gives discounts to verified students and teachers.

All in, stacking all these means this could be had for ~$1200.00 for those who can check all the boxes. I decided to pass because I don't have enough time in the next 6 months to use it for games or AI training.
Does not work for GPUs?

Consumers have been so desensitized by gpu price hikes from pandemic shortages and free gov money they don't even think about how much their spending vs. the relative value imho. American marketing has always preyed on the uneducated however now the politicians laughing at the gullible public has become that it's free rein over the last 10 years how much dumber the average American has become. They believe tue first thing they hear or see and share it a million times without thought. A robot for sure could do better but instead AI is being used to manipulate the population to make rich richer. What happened to exploiting 3rd world counties dummies not instead of loyal citizens?

I'm going intel battlemage for the next lineup. Insane these prices have not gone down. Rather go 5070 or 5080 at this point but I'm staying 1440p for life until gsync ultimate monitor go down in price too

Graphic cards count as "computer accessories" and have historically been included in tax-exempt items. Lenovo's website does not automatically apply the tax exemption, so one would have to contact customer service after ordering.

Sorry to hear; it might not be available for you. For me, it was under my AMEX Gold card for $75 back from a $750 Lenovo purchase.

I've owned this card since launch and I don't really understand the use case here, or which games you're talking about. Not sure why you'd max out RT but refuse to use DLSS which puts the FPS well over 100 in games like psycho mode cyberpunk 2077.

If the card isn't appealing to you, fair enough. Lots of people buy the top end card and this is about 75% of the launch price for partner models which is a steep discount.

Ordered for $1470 after coupons, I.D me, tax but with 10% and $75 Amex cashbacks total should be $1248 - now that's a deal!

People holding out for the 5090.

The problem is scalpers. You'll need luck and/or a flexible campout schedule to get a 5090 at MSRP.

There no good case being a PC gamer these days without spending tons of money. I am saying this as someone who owns 4080. Consoles are just way cheaper, and my PC is now for work tasks like rendering and AI etc.
