Most definitely. There are several videos on YouTube of people doing that. I already have one of these ordered and I'm going to pick up a shovel handle and put this aside for the upcoming zombie apocalypse.

I have one. I did the spear thing with a branch out in the woods. The wood got jammed into the handle so far that I had to drill it out. There is a hole in the side of the handle you can put a nail or screw in. This will stop the shaft from getting stuck.

I wrapped mine in Paracord and with the lanyard slippage is not possible
