If you're washing them daily, there's no real reason to throw them away unless there's apparent damage.

Ok spend 30 seconds gagging while stabbing your tongue with bristles, or 1 second swipe with a thin shim, you decide.

Anyone happen to know, why some ppl never have build up on their tongue?

I have been using scraper with toothpaste for years, I wonder if it's bc I started doing it years ago and have to do it ever since…
I always have it cause post nasal drip.

These are "scrapers" not brushers. You need to scrape the stuff off your tongue and wash it off. Brushing doesn't really remove that stuff.

People are biologically diverse. Not everyone experiences buildup that some quick but firm brushing can't remove, but it can depend on your toothbrush too.

I've actually tried one of these in the past - wasn't a fan. I couldn't get the back of my tongue without cutting it; I tossed it in the trash and went back to brushing after I got tired of that.

come from a place and country where tougue scrapers are a norm.
many a dentist recommended plastic over metal, issue of minor trauma day after day..
have been using a thick plastic scraper for years now, not those flimsy plastic ones.

This is like saying not everyone needs to use soap when they shower.

But really, it's more than what you eat than genetics. Everyone with a tongue will have buildup with the right food.

Right on the second part, but let's agree to disagree on the first - it's not like saying some people don't need soap at all. Not everyone needs a tongue scraper to maintain good oral hygiene...

It's like flossing. Everyone can benefit from flossing. Brushing alone won't remove everything between your teeth.

You keep trying to make comparisons that don't fit... it's not "like flossing" at all - that is a task that can only be accomplished via floss. Again, not everyone needs a tongue scraper for a healthy, fresh pink tongue.

Toothbrush vs scraper for tongue cleaning is more like comparing hair brush vs comb. Both are viable options for hair management, and what you use depends on your own personal circumstances.

...this argument is dumb, so I'm done.

That's how analogies work lmao. Studies show that both flossing and scraping removes more buildup than brushing alone. These are facts (check google if you don't believe me).

Gagging is only one problem. I've never heard of anyone else with this problem, and my dentist said she's never heard of it, but brushing my tongue triggers a sneeze reflex.

If someday you see posted on social media a picture of an X-ray of a toothbrush stuck in the trachea or esophagus, it will probably be authentic and it will probably be me.

No discernable difference between using a toothbrush, scraper, or both.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/...MC8751028/

"From these results, it can be confirmed that mechanical tongue cleaning is effective at reducing bad breath and tongue coating. However, in this study, there was no difference in the reduction according to the tools used for mechanical tongue cleaning, so it can be seen that wiping accurately from the rear of the tongue to the front is more effective at reducing bad breath and tongue coating than the tool itself. Therefore, bad breath can be reduced simply by removing the tongue coating that causes bad breath, using a toothbrush or a tongue scraper. It can be seen that removing tongue coating in an accurate and correct way is an important way to manage bad breath."

I've been using these since I was a teen. They're great. Mine has lasted for over 20 years and is as good as new. I rinse it well after each use and then once a week or so, I toss it in the dishwasher. TIP: If you go on vacation and forget or don't want to take it, borrow a spoon from the hotel restaurant and use that. Works about the same but takes more time.

I like the single handle tongue scrapper better. They are just easier to handle and takes less space
