Firstly, use Prime as commander. Secondly only play in 2 or 3 player games with it. It has vigilance, haste, and trample, which means it can come out when and only when it needs to attack. And it won't tap so you can sac an artifact immediately or sometime before your next turn. Everything else is about supporting his use as a commander damage wincon, or distraction, or added defense.
Since when does Costco sell Magic? This is my dream come true!
only if you're one of those scumbags like the ones that return mattresses after 5 years of use.

Decent precons here. All of them are relatively playable except for the Science one. Maybe I just don't get it, but my buddy owns it and he gets completely destroyed every time he plays it. The whole energy thing is more of a hindrance than it is helpful.

Hell yeah, thanks. In for 1 set, $34 per deck is the cheapest I've seen any of these themed ones.

yes, it's a good deal.
For a beginner is a different question. Are you planning to play Commander? It's great for casual chaos games with a laid back group.
"Standard" magic is the one v one using 60 card decks, that you can also practice and get to know more about with the free MTG: Arena app on a variety of devices: https://magic.wizards.com/en/mtgarena

it has a few formats but does not include Commander play as an option.

Yeah I agree. I've wanted to get in to commander with just theme decks and Mothman is a highly rated one. It alone goes for $70+ on aftermarket websites. If you price out the lowest cost of these decks individually on TCGplayer they hit around $200.

If it's just for playing just buy fake cards aka proxies. No reason to waste 100+ bucks on pieces of paper.
