Have a couple of these. The rechargeable battery doesn't last very long if you pull open the latern, maybe an hour. But it's built so that it can accommodate rechargeable battery and 3xAA. The AA lasts a lot longer than the 18650 but like any other lantern.

Micro USB charging looks to be the main flaw with these. If that doesn't bother you, and you don't mind getting 4, then this is probably a pretty good deal.

For the curious, from an Amazon review

The lanterns have a single,1500 mAh, 3.7V, 18650 rechargeable lithium battery - (not an Energizer rechargeable battery). Also, the instructions indicate that only the battery that ships with the device can be used. The number of recharge cycles is not given.
An indicator led is red while charging and turns green when the battery is fully charged.
If the included 18" usb cable is connected to a 12V car battery for example, this would provide 300 lumens of ambient light for more than the 2 hours suggested, and also power the flashing red light longer. In addition, the lanterns do not have an IPX4 rating for exposure to water, so they should be used inside a car in wet weather.
The three magnets on the base, do securely hold the lantern to a steel surface

I love my lanterns. Bought them last time for $25 and got the camelcamelcamel notice they were down to $20. I was going to post here but the OP beat me to it by several hours. I'm in for 3 as they are good gifts

That's why I didn't throw out my micro-usb cables. A lot of stuff using micro-usb still don't include cables

Because they are selling old stock. I prefer a micro usb myself if that means a hefty discount.A micro usb to usb c adapter is cheap and reusable.

curious why the review is in the context of being in a car.

Isn't 300 lumens a bit weak?

I'd prefer a Lucy light, solar rechargeable, used in third world countries. More expensive, yes ... but far more versatile.

do they automatically switch from rechargeable battery to internal battery once the rechargeable dies?

I have had these a year. Used them a few times for camping and lighting the hunting site.
Worth $20. Not more
