Can this be used for controlling several inputs/outputs (mic/hradphones) from several PCs? And if so, can the thing take it further with a wireless master headset?

A bit overkill and not the ideal tool - since you will need something that takes your PC output to be an XLR input. But it is doable.
iPad app no longer works and there's no official Android app, only a 3rd party that may or may not work for you
Have you had issues with the 3rd party app? I have been running the 3rd party app Mixing Station for five years on Android, Windows, and iOS with no issues.

Appreciate your input. Do you happen to have any recommendations for a better solution? Essentially I need to blend outputs (headphones) from several sources (so that you can combine them but not necessarily mix them - like, e.g. source #1 goes into left ear, and source #2 into right, and you can toggle between those on demand) and switch between inputs (mics), but only 1 active mic at a time. The master headset (on my head) is wireless, but the sources could be wired into the mixer, if needed. And if I understand this particular device, you can control everything from a tablet visually, which is great (as long as it works reliably for the use case above). Please advise 🙏

Can you expand on this? I am using the Ipad app with my XR18 just fine. I also use Mixing Station.
Are you using yours with an external router? Unless you're standing right next to the unit an external router is a must.

They are wrong. There's an official app for Android. Type X Air into the Google Play store and you'll see it. I suspect it's the same for the Apple Store.
I am currently using one of these in a small auditorium setup and can vouch that it works perfectly!
-It produces very little heat
-The official Android app is alive and well.
-With a budget Samsung tablet, I can remotely control this mixer with the WiFi direct connection from over 50' away with zero line of sight and mounted in an enclosed metal rack.

This comment can't be any less wrong. I've been using the x air app on my Android phone, tablet, iPad and laptop fine. Do you own one of this? Or have you used one of this?

If using built on wifi than that could be your issue. There is both an IOS and Android app. Both work. Also there is software for MacOS as well. I use it every Sunday. It's a very good mixer with 16 channels, just works. I am thinking of getting one as a backup.
The XR12 is also on sale at Amazon for $329, down from $419.Behringer X Air XR12 12-Input Digital Mixer with 4 Programmable MIDAS Preamps for iPad/Android Tablets https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ZR77GGC
