Pants 5-6 years ago that were polyester but nicer and softer than my more expensive suit pants. Sadly they don't make pants like that anymore.
So, if you infrequently use suits or want to test the waters, a cheap polyester is fine. If you are going to wear them on the daily, Wool is better.
But at the end of the day, always stick with that feels best within your budget.
If you live in Or near downtown LA you can get nice starter wool suits for a good price in the fashion district.

I have a pair of Rayon pants from Jos. A Bank and i love them, they just require a lot more care than my normal work pants.
