Wish they would allow us to use bluetooth clickers to switch the page left and right -- that would be badass. Color screens once matured will be lovely too. They should also move the power button to the top IMO. One other thing - stop spamming us with the Internet not connected for those of us who keep our kindles on airplane mode.

At 205$ without trade-in is a great deal.
Without the premium you're really going to miss out if you're gonna write on things.
My suggestion if you can't get a premium one is to head to eBay.
Trust me, the eraser function is unmissable.
Love my Scribe. The display size is a game changer and makes reading so enjoyable. The premium pen is awesome to draw, doodle, etc.

This is such a great device. I wasn't sure if it made sense to buy it considering all the phones and tablets I have that I can also read on, but the Scribe is just on a totally different level when it comes to eye comfort and the quality of the reading experience. I am looking forward to taking it on a long flight loaded with books instead of a laptop or tablet. And if I get bored reading, I can doodle or pen down my thoughts/ideas in a notebook.
Pros -
1) Note-taking works well, and it's intuitive. It has changed the way I take notes at work. You no longer have to hunt for your notes as much within a notebook.
2) Screen brightness is pretty uniform; no discernible black spots.
3) Once you get used to reading books on a larger screen, you'll find it more preferable than the smaller kindle. Of course, you cannot hold it up for long, but you learn to prop it on your body if you are reading in bed.
Cons -
1) Bluetooth works really bad for audiobook listening via Audible. I'm convinced it's a firmware issue with all or many kindles. I went through three kindles; got them all replaced via warranty. Each time they sent me a (probably) refurbished unit. They looked brand new, so I didn't care. I've given up at this point. The issue is that audio works well for the first few minutes, and then the sound starts crackling, with noticeable static and jitteriness of the audio. I doesn't matter which headphones you use. I've tried various different ones, and all of them had the same issue. In fact my primary listening headphones are Amazon Echo Buds. I tried everything from resetting the device to trying out different audiobooks. Nothing helps. It always starts well, and after 3-4 minutes audio turns crappy. There are a few other reviews on Amazon complaining about the same thing, so I know I'm not alone.
2) The note taking software is clearly behind its competition. Various other eink based note taking devices have much better functionality (e.g. Remarkable e-readers). It was first thought Amazon is starting with a basic set, and will eventually improve. But that hasn't happened yet.
3) It makes for an excellent manga reading device, but again it's held back by its software. One has to resort to third-party desktop tools to convert them to a desirable format
4) Kindles now support epubs — kind of. You can email a non-drm epub to your kindle address, and it'll appear in a few minutes after conversion. But that's not the same as having true native epub support. It's time the industry converged to one format; Amazon being one of the only holdouts.
On one hand, I am holding out for the Paperwhite 6 (due in <12 months), but my aging eyes may need a Scribe just for reading.

That's the pain point for me, that I do repeatedly especially since the screen is so small. I end up reading on my phone or tablet, rather than the Kindle reader now. Another pain point is marking text in books when it spawns different pages.
Fixing those and I'd be happy.

The next best alternative to this is remarkable. But for note taking at this price, I can live with this occasional issue.
