I like M12 stuff but what could this realistically cut before the battery dies?

Well it says up to 190 cuts of 2x4's per charge using 5.0 battery.

This probably isn't a tool a contractor would be using all day to frame a house, but likely good enough for any home owner especially if you have extra batteries.

Really only a good deal if you already have m12 batteries. Add a 5.0 seperately and you're already over the price of the m18w/battery combo.

Yes - the old version is 2530-20.

Yep, as someone who has both, it is a SIGNIFICANT improvement vs Gen1. It's way lighter, the handle's closer to the center of gravity so it's much easier to manipulate with wrist action.. more powerful, motor sounds nicer/better, has a rafter hook, motor doesn't overhang as much (nicer for getting in to tight spaces)...

The ONLY drawback vs the old one is the plastic blade guard, which isn't really a problem in my eyes. Gen1's motor housing was massively overbuilt, making it relatively heavy.

Edit: Top-down view showing the size difference/motor overhang: https://i.imgur.com/EI3alPC.jpeg

Well I can cut 2x4s with my miter saw. And I have a track saw already. You think I should still get this? I'm a DIYer too going to be finishing my basement in the next few months

I have done this, I just call home depot customer service after I order and I ask if they can cancel part of my order. Done it twice no issues. Haven't done it lately because the deals ive found have been in store. But I also do store pick up and return batteries after pick up. No issues 👍

I have a table saw, miter saw and a track saw but I still have a 6 1/2 and a 7 1/4, its good to have light saws for a quick cut. Especially for a quick 2x4 cut or a small piece. Super handy in my opinion. Just check wether you can get a better 18v saw for around the same price. I have m12 tools but no saws. I'm happy with them so far and impressed 👍

I generally feel this way about this type of tool (cutting/sawing) when it comes to home/DIYer usage. I'm not that bothered by plugging in a saw if I need to make cuts. For me, circular, recip, miter, table saws and routers are tools that I would only get corded (unless the cordless version has better performance and is cheaper).

I never suggested you should get it in the first place.

Do whatever you think is best. If you have a hundred dollars to blow, I'm sure you will find a handy use for the saw. Is an absolute necessity in your case? Most likely not.
