Just FYI, there are some quality issues regarding this device such as hinge problem & battery explosion issue. Especially for the battery explosion issue, Anbernic put the battery right on the top of its CPU without any protection between and the device will get hot easily. There are some people posted these issues online and I think whoever wants to buy it needs to take a look first and just be awared of what you will be getting:

I have both. I like the TrimUI Smart Pro. The bigger screen is amazing along with the dpad. Lots of customization options. 35xxSP too clicky and screen is too small. TSP is great if you are going to be playing a lot of GBA roms.
Totally different form factor and use case. Wide screen vs 4:3. That has it's place but this one is better for classic games and well the form factor is more fun on the SP.

RetroGameCorps YouTuber Russ reached out to Anbernic and they confirmed that 3/50,000 units sold had this issue. It's worth noting but there is a 0.006% chance this will happen to you, based on those numbers
The fact people believe in the chinese sellers with those numbers is laughable

Does anyone know of it is possible to connect two or these together? I want to get a pair for my nephews to play the original Pokemon games, and I'm wondering if they will be able to trade Pokemon with each other
Looked into this recently, and unfortunately there are not a lot of great options out there for Pokemon play. Games like Mario Kart are easier, because they use netplay, where the two devices are basically just playing the same game at the same time and synchronizing inputs, but Pokemon gets more complicated because you would be connecting two different games with a link cable or similar, and the emulators don't really have much support for doing that.

There is apparently some support on the Miyoo systems, which they've added a function for in their custom firmware specifically designed for Pokemon. It's pretty neat, it basically runs two copies of the game in the background on each system simultaneously, and then does the netplay thing between devices on top of that. But that's the only implementation I was able to find, in my research.

Basically, make sure to research it before picking this up for specifically that purpose.

I think you might be able to use the coupon on all of Anbernic's handhelds in their official eBay store. Some other ones to consider are the RG35XXH, RG28XX, and the RG40XX.

Especially the people working their chat support. They don't know what you are even asking about and just do their best to give an answer.

Yup, most of these sellers couldn't care less if your house burned down because of their product and will tell you whatever it takes to make a sale. You are dealing with a company that has 0 issues with sending out thousands of copies of pirated games.

A PSA for anybody considering one of these:
If you don't have technical knowhow, you will have a bad time. Most people who own these suggest the first thing you do is toss the stock SD cards, format, partition and flash a linux OS like ARKOS onto a new one (make sure you buy one that's actually compatible). There are guides, but these things are not as user friendly as a gameboy.

That said, if you are willing to put in the work these are a pretty amazing value.

This is one of the best classic console emulators, based on the form factor, screen, and features according to Russ from Retro Game Corps:

So this guy with 500K+ YouTube subs says it's the best things since sliced bread, while the battery apparently explodes? Which one is it? So confused as someone not deep into the scene.

There would be more reports on the Discords and subreddits of failing batteries. I've only seen 1 post.

For example. The Retroid Pocket Flip had issues of failing hinges due to shrinking plastic that cracked around a metal pin. There were dozens of posts about it on reddit and discords. Even the one that I bought had a cracked hinge that developed within days.

If the batteries were a widespread issue we would hear more about it. And even more so with this one since it is just $60 vs $250 like the flip.

The more recent units all come with a version of garlicOS which was based on onionOS for the miyoo minis. Other than getting a better SD card and loading your games, you dont have to change the firmware.

Lets be factual here. The battery didn't explode but bulged, very different things. From looking at the images this is voltage regulator or charging IC failure. Given the bulging battery and burned chip it could have been an overcharge, OR an over discharge from a shorted voltage regulator.

It's hard to say from a data point of one whether there is likely a design issue or a fluke part failure. Certainly the lack of customer support is irritating from anerbic.

The answer is both. This is a amazing device. I personally have the device and had no issues with it.

There have been like 3 people reporting that their device device overheated and melted/damage. Nobody knows the reason. Could be isolated incident due to manufacture QC, or individual using inappropriate charging.

Use your own judgement. Don't buy if you are too scared lol

The batteries didn't explode. That would kill someone. No one has died. The battery just swells. Which is not good either. But don't say dumb $hit like that. What an uneducated tool
