Data Transfer Speed 460 MB/s

Absolutely awful considering it has a USB 3.2 Gen 1. This thing should reach way higher speeds but somehow, they designed it to be awful.
USB 3.2 Gen 1 is limited to 5 gigabit which translates into 625 megabyte max. The USB protocol has overhead which probably explains the 460 MB/s speed. At the end of the day though, it's still limited.

possibly not a great product - slow speed and data loss.

How is this in extreme temps? Im curious besides the m.2 vs SSD difference vs the same priced T7.

Seems okay for backups or bringing movies along on a trip though. At this speed I probably wouldn't install games on it.

The price per TB seems excellent though as long as you don't need high performance.

It would be quite useful if you can maintain at the speed. Most of those type of devices, due to usage of QLC, and the poor controller, can only deliver the rated speed for maybe 5GB, if even that. If you end up copying 50 GB or 100 GB, the size of a few modern game file. You'll be running at much lower speed once the slc cash is full, sometime just a few mega byte per second. transfer would literally take hours.
If you care about transfer speed at all, because of why wouldn't you if you're buying two TB drive, test your device by copying some large files like 50 GB or 100 GB files.

That speed is close to the limit of what USB 3.2 Gen 1 is capable of though. Byte and bit are different I think around 500 megabyte's/s is all the interface is capable of and there's always some overhead from the controller.

Can anyone recommend a better 2TB external drive? Something that can be used to back up files in a "RAID" type fashion?

Why is this a good price? The Samsung T7 which is 2x faster was consistently on sale for ~$125 for 2TB last fall - I paid ~$120 for mine (T7 Shield version) direct from Samsung.

These days I just buy an nvme enclosure and nvme drive.
Lower cost and I know what kind of hard drive is in there. I dont see any top brand nvme drives failing on a portable drive.

This is typical for Gen 1 (about 500)
Gen 2 is about 1000
There's also Gen 2x1 and 2x2 that are supposedly faster
