Doom Eternal has LOTS of platforming and feels like they force you to use flame belch and melee, instead of just letting you play how you want to play.
Personally preferred Doom (2016) over Eternal. Eternal is just all over the place (literally and figuratively).

finally played DOOM for the first time recently (i know im late), what a game
Then you should definitely buy the DOOM Eternal Deluxe Edition.
Comes with DOOM Eternal and both DLC on sale for $18. https://store.playstation.com/en-...ERNALDELUX
More action oriented than the scary dark claustrophobic DOOM- But fast and vast. Really expands on the DOOM character and mythos, deeper than I expected.

I had completed Doom 2016 three times on different difficulties.
But I am barely feeling like playing Doom Eternal at 60% completion first time.
Eternal just forces you to rely playing in specific way by using all the weapons turn wise and picking up things dropped by enemies to replenish ammo and health.

Like you I was fairly far in, but then somehow my save got deleted (on pc game pass).
It's not all bad, as it's fairly fluid gunplay wise... but yeah the cycling through weapons due to constantly running out of ammo got old fast. Maxing out the ammo capacity makes barely any difference, as it doesn't even increase max ammo that much.
The game just seems like a mess all around. From the HUD to having way too many rechargeable weapons to keep track of at any given time (i.e. the chainsaw, blood punch, crucible blade, flame belch, ice bomb, grenade, and maybe some other things I left out).
