That will push the budget laptops to try harder.

Inspiron is trash. I just bought a refurb Latitude with comparable specs (one CPU gen back, but with USB-C and Thunderbolt 4) for about the same price.

Damn, I was looking to see if there were 2 memory slots and was scrolling and saw a picture of the hinge design.... damn.

This terrible design where the bottom of the display bezel goes under and lifts up the back of the laptop is awful, and should be avoided at all cost unless you plan to keep the laptop always open.
I bought my daughter an ACER laptop that lifts the laptop when the lid opens. I thought this was good as it increases air flow and helps the laptop stay cooler. Is this not true?

Check the Latitude 5410 deal at DellRefurbished.
Ensure you get 16GB, since RAM is not upgradable.
Machine is old but much more better built and in real world use will hardly notice difference between i510 and i13-1215U

They also have 7420 at 45% Off.

No touch, or would be great for elementary back to school.
Most students don't need a touch screen.

That should be true. It does sound like a good design provided the monitor's hinges don't wear out sooner.
