because USB-B is the sturdiest. The micro-USB jacks are pretty delicate and often fail if you need to plug/unplug frequently.

I have one. It sounds really good through a powered monitor. Really like they added a tuner with the update this year. Sold my Helix and kept this.

This + HX Stomp (in the fx loop) is a very popular and powerful combo.

I have a couple Tonex Ones and they are really amazing. It's tempting to get this if not for the extended controls and midi capability but I totally don't need it... or do I? Hahahahaha

Can't this emulate effects as well? Why would you run double effects? The Tonex can download patches that have effects built in? Maybe I need to watch the YT videos 😂

The Tonex is only an amp/cab/drive modeler and not a multi FX unit. The HX Stomp (and a number of other units out there) are multi FX units that can emulate mods, chorus, delay, reverb and also drives, amps, cabs and more.
Where the Tonex shines is in their selection of amp/cab/drive models, the ability to capture your own amps/cabs/drives, as well as access to hundreds or thousands of models created by others on "Tonenet". You can of course purchase models from 3rd parties and also direct from Tonex.

I will say that their software is not intuitive and there is some time investment required to learn and understand how to use it as far as setting up and loading models/presets. But it is a very powerful modeler/simulator. Lots of guys with HX stomps prefer the models on the Tonex to the ones available on via Line6 and it also frees up DSP/memory and blocks on the Stomp (or really whatever multiFX you prefer) for more FX in the chain. Some ppl also want to capture and use their own models so they dont have to lug around a huge amp that they would rather leave at home

So I have the deluxe version of Amplitude 5 on my Mac, so I thought this pedal allowed me to download those tones to the pedal and take it with me? Is that not what this does?

No, you can't use Amplitubes sounds with the pedal. This is strictly for ToneX captures. That said, you CAN use ToneX captures inside Amplitube on your computer.

The pedal does come with a few effects built in, though (I think reverb, compression and a gate?). That said, they are not the greatest and aren't really meant to cover a ton of ground.

Yep, Google answered it for me as well. Back to the drawing board. I have an old Boss GT-100 I use weekly in my band, and was hoping to replace it with something different. Guess I will check out the GT-1000 LOL I like the ability to have a patch with all functions on that patch, not a "tone" and having individual effects I have to turn on and off. I sing as well, so I can't solely focus on turning on delay, etc while trying to play/sing.

AH yes, you are corect about the "built-in" effects haha. There is a reverb (spring I believe) as well as comp and gate. So technically you could use this as a standalone but if you want something a bit more extensive you likely will want a dedicated Multi FX unit to broaden the scope of effects selection... especially when it comes to mods, delays and reverbs.

Really, any Multi FX unit that has an FX loop in it, where you can insert the Tonex into the block(s) that you would have used for the amp/cab, is going to be the most ideal. I have a Headrush MX5 that I was using this way before I 'converted' to partial-analog hahaha. Otherwise, it pairs well with Line6 stuff (HX Effects is great but the board is huge) and should work well with the Boss stuff. This + a small Multi FX box w/ FX loop can really make for a great fly rig.

ToneX amp sounds will be miles better than the Boss, but definitely nothing beats a fully integrated modeling unit if you need all that it can offer. I owned a ToneX Pedal when it first came out, thinking I'd use it a ton, but really I just ended up capturing my amps and using the plugin for recording while the pedal sat in the box collecting dust. Now I use an HX Stomp on my board for time based effects, modulation and pitch shifting. If my amp dies, I have the option of turning on amp modeling with it, but since I have several great amps, I don't really NEED that side of it. ToneX does sound fantastic, though. I wish the smaller pedal, the ToneX One, had MIDI built into it, as you can capture pedals with these as well and it'd allow me to have a bunch of drives, distortions and fuzzes inside one tiny box... But no MIDI is a deal breaker for me on my board 😭
